Background / History

Wudang is based on Mount Wudang, whose mountain gate is marked by vermilion-lacquered doors and an ancient stele bearing the mountain’s name. Its grounds include a high, secluded peak rich in spiritual energy, surrounded by dense forest, cliffs, cloud, and mist. 77 84

Founded and led for many years by Zhang Sanfeng, Wudang became one of the Central Plains’ foremost orthodox sects. Its deep martial foundation and Zhang’s reputation allowed it to suppress numerous other sects, but extended seclusion and rumors of Zhang’s declining health led outsiders to believe that the sect lacked successors and faced eventual decline. 106 107 171 457

Chen Xiaofan’s Entry into Wudang

Chen Xiaofan arrived at Mount Wudang after leaving the Beggar Sect. He was accepted into Wudang’s senior structure, received martial arts scriptures from senior brothers, and became the eighth member of the Wudang Heroes. 77 84
