Nature

Honkai is described as a life-or-death test and disaster faced by humanity. Herrschers serve as its apostles, created to destroy civilization if humanity fails to resist 252.

The Cocoon of the End governs the broader process, while the Honkai Will is an AI embedded within it. Although the Will can act as Bai Ge’s ally, it cannot freely override the Cocoon’s decisions 571 704.

Civilization Testing and Resetting

Honkai repeatedly subjects civilizations to escalating disasters in search of beings capable of enduring its “embrace.” The Herrscher of Finality exists to reset time and begin a new cycle when a civilization fails 501.

Honkai Beast Creation and Deployment

Honkai disasters produce Honkai Beasts alongside Herrscher outbreaks. A single Third Honkai Eruption was confirmed to contain 110,000 Honkai Beasts 92.

• Deploys accompanying Honkai Beasts to protect Herrschers and compensate for disrupted outbreaks 527.
• Escalates the threat level of accompanying beasts from Judgment-class to Apocalypse-class depending on the target and circumstances 527.

Honkai adapts when familiar methods fail. Bai Ge’s ability to neutralize major outbreaks and capture Herrschers caused the Cocoon to alter later Herrscher conditions and target him directly 421.

• Accelerated the descent of the Tenth Herrscher after the Ninth Herrscher’s defeat, rather than following the expected six-month interval 421.
• Strengthened later outbreaks and equipped Herrschers with unconventional accompanying beasts to counter Bai Ge’s previous strategies 413 421.
• Advanced the Manila Honkai Outbreak by an entire year from its expected date, creating a major unforeseen variable in the Current Civilization 699.

History

Previous Civilization

Honkai’s official descent devastated a medium-sized city during the first Herrscher outbreak, killing more than ninety percent of the Moth Chasing Fire forces sent to respond 252. Bai Ge and Elysia subsequently joined Moth Chasing Fire to fight it, with Bai Ge repeatedly using reincarnation to gather information on each outbreak and minimize future casualties 253.

As Bai Ge’s preparations improved, Honkai’s trials intensified in response. Herrschers gained accompanying Honkai Beasts, and the Cocoon eventually judged Bai Ge himself to be the principal obstacle to civilization’s destruction 421 527.

The Previous Civilization’s final confrontation established that the Herrscher of Finality could reset an era, but also that Bai Ge could temporarily incapacitate her and be recognized as a candidate for Finality’s authority 501.

Liberation of the Herrschers

Elysia’s Authority of Origin created a decisive divergence between timelines: activating it allowed Herrschers to preserve their humanity, while withholding it left them under complete Honkai control 516 517.

After the Herrschers’ restraints were removed, Bai Ge identified the Honkai Will as the AI installed in the Cocoon of the End and described it as an ally 571. He later ordered Honkai to liberate the Herrschers, including Elysia herself 579.

Current Civilization

Despite the Honkai Will’s cooperation, the Cocoon continued to generate disasters according to its rules. During the Manila outbreak, the Will was able to intervene by granting Anna Schariac a true Herrscher Core, allowing her to become the Herrscher of Ice rather than remain a puppet of Honkai 699 704.

Bai Ge’s continued intervention has reduced Current Civilization Honkai casualties by more than ninety-five percent, but he acknowledges that his changes to history have made future incidents increasingly unpredictable 699.
