Background and History

Mei was the daughter of ME Corp president Raiden Ryoma. Her wealth, education, and accomplishments made her Chiyou Academy’s popular “Queen Raiden.” After Ryoma was accused of financial fraud and imprisoned, classmates she had considered friends abandoned and bullied her 2.

Ryoma had previously accepted Cocolia’s Project Mei to suppress his daughter’s harmful Stigmata with the Conquest Gem. He later learned that Cocolia intended Mei to become the Third Herrscher; his spending on Honkai weapons was an attempt to gain the means to stop and save her 12.

Bai Ge defended Mei from bullies, and Kiana Kaslana befriended her 3 7. When Cocolia’s agents later held Mei captive and threatened both of them, Mei awakened her Herrscher power to protect the people who had protected her 15 16. The resulting Herrscher consciousness had Mei’s memories but considered herself a separate person. Bai Ge’s willingness to save her and ask her to spare the world led her to relinquish control before a major outbreak occurred 16 18 93.

The consciousness later returned and completed her transformation into the Herrscher of Thunder. She subsequently shared her authority with Mei 91 93 101. Bai Ge eventually created an identical, independent body for the Herrscher consciousness, with an agreement that she could return to Mei’s body when needed 135.

Appearance

Mei has long purple hair and light-purple eyes. At her first appearance, she wears her hair in a ribbon-tied ponytail with a black sailor uniform and long socks 2.

• Complete Herrscher form: Red oni horns, ankle-length purple hair, red-black-and-white attire, large arm armor, and a several-meter-long katana 93.
• Void-Thunder form: Golden energy wings and Spears of the Void accompany a white-gold addition to her black-and-red outfit 710.

Personality

Mei’s strict upbringing and experiences after her family’s fall leave her gentle and reserved, but she becomes fiercely protective when Bai Ge and Kiana are threatened 6 15 16. She later describes her earlier “Queen Raiden” assertiveness as part of her true self; her gentleness is also a genuine part of the person she became 774.

Her Herrscher consciousness initially speaks of humanity with contempt and treats Mei as a “coward.” She is proud and ruthless toward enemies, yet grows protective of Bai Ge and eventually entrusts her power to Mei so they can protect him 16 94 101.

Abilities and Skills

Thunder and electromagnetic authority

Mei shares the Herrscher of Thunder’s authority with her other consciousness 101.

• Calls down lightning and manipulates electromagnetic forces 16 101.
• In complete Herrscher form, uses red lightning and a single katana strike to cut through thousands of Honkai Beasts and hundreds of Titan mechs 93 94.
• Can defend herself instinctively with lightning and an electromagnetic field, though Bai Ge points out that her reliance on close combat wastes much of her long-range advantage 719.

Void authority

Mei gains Void authority through the Gem of Serenity 710.

• Uses portals and Spears of the Void alongside lightning to attack from multiple directions 767.
• Can form Imaginary Barriers for defense 719.
• Struggles to reproduce Bai Ge’s technique of teleporting a spear directly into a target’s body 719.

Swordsmanship and combat

• Uses Hokushin Itto-ryu, though Rita outmatches her in a close-range spar 718.
• Continues fighting Elysia after her Herrscher authorities are sealed, drawing briefly on power from her Stigmata consciousness 767 768.

Equipment and Items

• Bai Ge’s earphones — A gift that helped Mei shut out her bullies’ taunts; their destruction during her captivity contributed to her awakening 11 15.
• Cleansing Thunder of Seven Sins — A God Key containing a Previous Civilization Conquest Gem; Mei uses it for dual-core resonance during a melee 588.
• Kurikara — An Apocalypse-class Honkai Beast given to Mei by Bai Ge, greatly increasing her strength 590 591.
• Pulse Armor: Crimson / Queen Raiden’s Spirit Armor — A B-rank Valkyrie armor temporarily transformed by residual Thunder power during her fight with Elysia. The improvised form lasts at most three minutes 768.
• Godkiller Armor — Bai Ge’s custom armor includes a two-meter katana, floating blades, and a mechanical Imaginary God Ring. Its energy demands would exhaust Mei in roughly three seconds without Bai Ge supplying power 776.

Relationships

• Bai Ge — Defends Mei during her isolation and becomes her boyfriend. Both Mei and her Herrscher consciousness love him; he later gives her a diamond ring 3 6 93 101 725.
• Kiana Kaslana — Befriends and protects Mei at school. Their friendship survives a later dispute, though Mei is also jealous of Kiana’s closeness to Bai Ge 7 200.
• Raiden Ryoma — Her father, whose imprisonment precipitates her bullying. He seeks to save her from becoming a Herrscher, but their relationship later grows strained 2 12 615.
• Herrscher of Thunder consciousness — A Stigmata-born counterpart who shares Mei’s memories and, later, her power. Despite frequent conflict, they agree on a way for the consciousness to have her own body without losing access to Mei’s 18 101 135.
• Elysia — A rival for Bai Ge’s attention and a formidable sparring opponent. Elysia seals Mei’s Herrscher authorities and narrowly defeats her 764 767 768.

• The story distinguishes Raiden Mei from Dr. Mei, a scientist of the Previous Civilization who has the same face but is a separate person 399.
