Background / History

The earliest sign of the Sea’s unusual nature is the Green Light Spot that appears whenever Zhang Tie closes his eyes. It is a rotating green cluster inscribed with symbols he cannot recognize; its changes coincide with the unexplained disappearance of qi produced through the Evergreen Skill 3 5 6.

Its defensive importance becomes clear when Song Xingzhi attempts Soul Possession. Song enters Zhang Tie’s Sea of Consciousness expecting to seize his body, but the green pearl generates a powerful suction force and absorbs him instead. Zhang Tie subsequently inherits Song’s cultivation knowledge and memories 8.

The Sea later develops alongside Zhang Tie’s divine sense, split souls, Divine Apertures, and Nascent Soul. Its central artifact, eventually known as the Indestructible Pearl, remains its most consistent protective feature despite repeated changes to the surrounding consciousness space 110 243.

Appearance

When Zhang Tie observes it internally, his consciousness appears as a head-sized green sphere of light, while the Indestructible Pearl floats at the center of the space 54.

• The Pearl is initially described as green; it later gains purple threads and eventually appears as a translucent purple crystal sphere marked with faint runes 110 164 240.
• Following the Four-Three Heavenly Tribulation, the transformed configuration includes a golden ring suspended over a golden sea formed from Zhang Tie’s divine sense 243.
• During the Blood-Colored Nascent Soul’s invasion, more than half of the Sea is turned into a boiling blood-red domain, leaving only a protected core under Zhang Tie’s control 780.

Divine Sense Medium

The Sea of Consciousness is the domain through which Zhang Tie cultivates, extends, and deploys divine sense.

• Thousand Puppet Art condenses mental consciousness into divine sense; its cultivation is painful and risks damaging the practitioner if their body cannot sustain it 91.
• At Foundation Establishment, Zhang Tie’s divine sense reaches a thirty-li range, allowing broad awareness of his surroundings 102.
• Divine sense can enter other beings’ Seas of Consciousness for examination or soul-searching, though restrictions within a target’s Sea can prevent deeper access 220 487.

Soul-Targeting Techniques

Zhang Tie can use the Sea as the origin point for attacks and defensive formations directed at souls.

• Soul Piercing Thorn — condenses divine sense into a needle-like strike that bypasses most defenses and attacks an enemy’s Sea of Consciousness directly; it can stun or kill the target’s soul 112.
• Divine Thunder Soul Annihilation Formation — forms a miniature sword and thunder net around the Sea’s outer wall to annihilate invading demonic thoughts and soul bodies, but consumes divine power rapidly 681 682.
• Ice Trapping Soul Formation — uses Ice Law to slow and bind intruding soul bodies, allowing the Indestructible Pearl to absorb them with less expenditure than the thunder formation 682.

Split Divine Senses

The Soul Splitting Spirit Nurturing Art enables Zhang Tie to create additional divine senses with the same origin as his main soul.

• A matured split divine sense can be recalled to the Sea, increasing Zhang Tie’s total divine-sense reserves without extending its range 124.
• Split and main divine senses can merge temporarily, multiplying their strength and resilience 124.
• If the main divine sense is instantly destroyed, a split divine sense can become the new main consciousness 124.
• Zhang Tie cultivates synchronization between his original and divided consciousness so that their memories can be shared without obstruction 153.
• Merging a split spirit restores Zhang Tie’s damaged divine sense and lost memories after the Golden Boulder incident 240.

Indestructible Pearl’s Protection

The Indestructible Pearl acts autonomously against many intrusions into the Sea of Consciousness.

• It absorbs Song Xingzhi’s soul during his attempted possession 8.
• It consumes the fierce ghost and ghost horde released from the Blood Soul Banner 110.
• It draws in an invading Nascent Soul after the intruder is unable to harm the Pearl with spells 164.
• It saves Zhang Tie from the golden lightning phantom released by the Golden Boulder, though the attack still shatters one-third of his consciousness light cluster and severely depletes his divine sense 240.
• It immediately absorbs soul-devouring white insects that enter Zhang Tie’s Sea 827.
• It extinguishes the Corrupt Heart Demonic Flame after the flame invades and attempts to burn Zhang Tie’s soul origin 847.
