Background / History

Entry into the Hundred Refinements Sect

Wang Da Fu was the only son of Wang Youcai, a Flying Sword City spirit-rice merchant and the Wang family's patriarch. At sixteen or seventeen, he entered the Hundred Refinements Sect at his father's urging to learn artifact refining rather than risk his life in combat. Wang Youcai secured Elder Liu's favor through connections and payments before sending him to the sect. 738

Despite entering with a B-rank stone house assignment, Wang Da Fu was placed in the outer sect. He possessed a five-spirit root, regarded as a “waste spiritual root,” and had previously relied on family resources to reach the fourth level of Qi Refining through the Wang family's Spiritual Water Art. 739

His cultivation stagnated after his family’s supply of pills and spirit stones abruptly stopped. He instead devoted himself to the Scripture Depository's miscellaneous texts and to learning basic artifact refining, becoming capable of forging simple artifact embryos. 740 744

Lightning Strike Fruit

Wang Da Fu befriended Xie Bao Shan, another outer disciple from Flying Sword City. Though initially wary of Xie's unexpected offer of valuable demon-beast meat, Wang agreed to help identify a strange fruit found near Spirit Beast Mountain. 739 740 741

The pair discovered Lightning Strike Fruits. Wang Da Fu chose to eat one first; its power merged harmlessly with his body, leaving him invigorated and causing fine threads of black lightning to flash in his eyes. When Xie Bao Shan consumed a fruit and was nearly killed by violent lightning, Wang Da Fu absorbed the excess lightning, administered a healing pill, and later destroyed the tree to keep others from exploiting it. 742

A later test at the Wang family's ancestral spirit-testing tablet revealed that Wang Da Fu's former five-spirit root had become a legendary Five Elements Spiritual Root. The test also produced a terrifying black-lightning phenomenon that forced him to withdraw his hand. 748 749

Registered Disciple

Wang Da Fu entered the Hundred Refinements Sect's artifact-refining mini-competition, completing ore identification, ore refinement, and artifact-embryo forging. He combined Profound Iron, Profound Copper, and Sharp Metal into a black, yellow, and gold shovel embryo. Touching the completed shovel gave him an inexplicable feeling of familiarity and control, followed by a vision of a mining scene. 745

He remained frozen while holding the embryo for three days, only awakening after the assessment ended. Elder Xuan Qiuluo inspected and marked the shovel embryo, then accepted Wang Da Fu as a registered disciple. 746

Xuan Qiuluo gave him a storage bag containing a book, low-grade spirit stones, and Spirit Ascension Pills. Wang Da Fu’s father later spent much of the family fortune to obtain the Immovable Wisdom King Art, allowing Wang Da Fu to cultivate at a vastly accelerated rate in secret. 747 749

Body Snatching

After discovering Wang Da Fu's Five Elements Spiritual Root, Xuan Qiuluo decided to take his body to prolong his own life. He restrained Wang Da Fu, placed a soul-suppressing talisman on his forehead, and used the Soul Devouring Furnace with the Great Law of Yin-Yang Soul Devouring to initiate the ritual. 750

Wang Da Fu's consciousness was bound within his Sea of Consciousness and ultimately devoured by Xuan Qiuluo. A mysterious black crystal sphere then appeared and consumed Xuan Qiuluo's soul; the resulting consciousness emerged in Wang Da Fu's body and identified itself as Zhang Tie. 751

His modest demeanor did not prevent him from seeking advancement: he bought rare demon-beast meat despite its high price, studied miscellaneous books diligently, and committed himself to artifact refining when cultivation progress stalled. 740 744

He was cautious around uncertain opportunities, initially suspecting Xie Bao Shan’s offer of demon-beast meat. Nevertheless, he accepted the danger of the Lightning Strike Fruits after deciding that the path to immortality could not be entirely safe. 741 742

His strongest defining trait was loyalty toward Xie Bao Shan. He saved Xie after the fruit’s lightning nearly killed him, cared for him during his recovery, and promised to seek a lightning-attribute cultivation method if Xie's spiritual-root change proved real. 742 746
