Background
Powder Bone was discovered as a moving skeleton inside a coffin within the Immortal Grave. She possessed abnormal physical strength and durability: Zhang Tie's body-cultivation strike barely moved her, while her teeth could not pierce his body. Zhang Tie ultimately subdued and refined her into a corpse puppet after a perilous three-day ritual. 576
She could not recall her original name or much of her past, remembering only that she had once been “a great beauty who could topple nations.” Zhang Tie named her Powder Bone, explaining that the name represented the inevitability that beauty becomes bone before the pursuit of eternal life. She accepted the name and addressed him as Master. 578
Her past cultivation was immense. Zhang Tie later recognizes her as a former True Immortal who had spent tens of thousands of years in the Immortal Realm, accounting for her broad knowledge of ancient objects, formations, Yin energy, and the ghost path. 709
Appearance
Powder Bone initially appears as a withered, corpse-like skeleton, but can later manifest as a beautiful middle-aged woman. Her appearance changes noticeably as she feeds and advances. 576 584
- Withered skeletal frame marked by corrosive bone patterns and sharp fangs. 576
- Blood-red aura and increasingly repaired bones after devouring cultivators. 581 582
- Middle-aged feminine human form after consuming the fine-clothed Sea King Clan descendant. 584
- Blood-red palace dress when accompanying Zhang Tie in later events. 785
- Dark-gold bone armor, joint spurs, and skeletal features in her soul form. 710
- More crystalline bones and brighter soul fire after three years of growth. 797
Personality
Powder Bone is bloodthirsty, greedy, and delighted by opportunities to consume powerful opponents. When Zhang Tie leaves a hostile group to her, she calls them “blood food” and eagerly asks to enjoy them alone. 581
Her obedience is complicated by self-preservation. While protecting Chen Ping'an from Mei Ling, she outwardly vows to follow Zhang Tie's order even at the cost of her life, but internally admits that she fears Zhang Tie's punishment if Chen dies. 685 After restoring herself by devouring four demons, her greed and inner demon drive her to attempt to kill Zhang Tie. 687
Following Zhang Tie's punishment and his gift of the Ice God Art, she becomes more fearful, disciplined, and determined to serve him. Her loyalty remains imperfect but becomes more genuine when her soul is trapped in the crystal skull: after initially fleeing from danger, she turns back and attempts to defend Zhang Tie despite catastrophic soul injuries. 688 710
