Background / History
Hongjun first appears during Chu Feng's confrontation with Luohu. She recognizes the dense Yang-attributed laws within him but cannot deduce his origin, speculating that he may be connected to a Chaos Demon God. She refuses to let Luohu take him, believing his Yang energy could someday complete the Heavenly Dao. 4
After taking Chu Feng into her Dao Field, Hongjun provides him with spiritual fruits, protective treasures, and cultivation guidance. She warns him not to cultivate too hastily and establishes protective measures around the island. 5 When Chu Feng warns her that Luohu orchestrated the Dragon–Phoenix–Qilin conflict, she concludes that the calamity cannot simply be stopped because it follows the Heavenly Dao's will. 8
During the Dao–Demon Conflict, Hongjun faces Luohu after Yang Mei, Qian Kun, and Yin Yang are defeated or withdraw. She reveals the technique of severing three corpses, creating three additional incarnations of herself and defeating Luohu's clone. 20 Luohu's detonation of the Twelve-grade Black Lotus of Destruction forces Hongjun to return to seclusion despite her victory. 21
Hongjun later becomes a Saint and announces that she will preach the Dao at Purple Heaven Palace. 36 Her three sermons establish the cultivation hierarchy of Grand Unity Golden Immortal, Quasi-Saint, and Saint; explain the path of severing three corpses; and teach the Way of the Saint. 40 55 65 Following the second sermon, the assembled cultivators honor her as the Dao Ancestor. 55
After the third sermon, Hongjun distributes Primordial Violet Qi and accepts Laozi, Yuanshi, Tongtian, Nuwa, Jieyin, and Zhunti into her sect. 66 She eventually begins merging with the Heavenly Dao, but her meeting with a male counterpart from a parallel world reveals that full union risks eroding her self-awareness. 118 119
Hongjun joins Chu Feng and Male Hongjun in destroying the Heavenly Dao of Male Hongjun's world, then prepares to oppose the far stronger Heavenly Dao of her own Primordial World. 120 121 She ultimately completes her own Dao integration while retaining her will, openly breaking free of the Heavenly Dao's control. 189 246
