Hal took a deep breath, seeming to use tremendous effort to suppress his anger. He ran a hand through his hair and said, "I need to reorganize the extraterrestrial defense arrangements now. I need an assistant. Arthur, stay behind. I also need to talk to you about the Atlantis students at Mercury Base."
Diana was the first to rise, followed by Clark. Finally, Bruce stood as well and pushed in his chair.
Batman and Superman, still seated, were briefly at a loss. But seeing everyone else get up and head out, they had no choice but to stand too.
Even Lex left his office. Before closing the door, he told Hal inside, "Luthor Corp has three satellites launching next Monday morning. They aren't unidentified flying objects, so make sure your subordinates don't shoot them down."
"Got it. I'll let them know." Hal waved a hand.
After Lex left, he took a phone call and walked off to the right while speaking, apparently going to arrange work.
The local Justice League trinity and the visiting Superman and Batman stood in the hallway.
"So where are we going now?" Batman asked. "Do you have any other offices here?"
"What are you planning to do in an office?" Diana asked the question that struck at the soul.
"I thought we could discuss something. We can always discuss something," Batman said. "Is today's work really over already?"
"You got that right." Bruce nodded. "It's getting late. We should go watch TV."
"Watch TV?" Superman could not help asking. "You're going to watch TV?"
What he really wanted to ask was: with a dangerous pair of Superman and Batman still roaming around the city, and Metropolis likely about to suffer an alien invasion, your next work assignment was watching TV?
