Background

Wan Qingqing was raised by her mother, Wan Ling, within the Heavenly Seal Sect. As Wan Ling's only daughter and the chief disciple of Wan Qing Court, Qingqing took on much of the court's daily instruction and administration when her mother was unavailable. She welcomed Wei He and Sun Yi into the court, explained its cultivation system, and taught disciples its techniques, rules, and taboos 97 103.

Her cultivation talent and beauty drew the attention of Yan Jiuhai, son of Lishan Sect expert Yan Junshan. The Lishan Sect, Deputy Sect Master Zhou Shun, and Qingqing's own childhood acquaintances pressured her to accept the marriage, viewing it as politically advantageous. Qingqing rejected the arrangement, insisting on choosing her own life; Wan Ling secured her a martial-arts marriage competition as a final chance to resist 96 130 134.

Before the competition, Qingqing discovered that many of the people she trusted would not support her when doing so carried real danger. Shu Yumo attempted to drug her with Ten Thousand Flower Dew on Zhou Yugui's behalf, but Qingqing refused the drink after recalling Wei He's warning about colorless poisons 133 134. Wei He secretly eliminated Yan Jiuhai as a contender, then later listened to Qingqing's disillusionment with Zhou Yugui, Shu Yumo, and You Bufan. In return for his help, Qingqing sparred with him and let him experience the fourth layer of Overturning Rain Vigor firsthand 137.

After completing Bone Forging, Qingqing took responsibility for a branch outpost and continued serving as one of Wan Qing Court's principal fighters. She repeatedly sparred with Wei He, testing his unusual cold-attributed Jin Li and helping him understand the limits of Overturning Rain Vigor against Bone Forging practitioners 138 150 155.

During the Chijing Army's assault on the Wanqing Sect, Qingqing was severely wounded while fleeing with Wan Ling. She recovered, entered Xuanjing City with Wei He in disguise to purchase provisions, investigated the whereabouts of lost Heavenly Seal manuals, and later helped lead the sect's retreat during an Exotic Beast tide 163 171 201 234. While escaping Ouyang Zhao, she relied on speed and a poison-repelling item to withstand poisonous attacks and break away 235.

Qingqing and Wei He gradually became engaged after publicly holding hands at Wang Shaojun's wedding. Wei He gave her an Ice Seal Flower mark as a symbol of pure love, and the two formally married later at a Myriad Poison Sect banquet 214 217 243. She gave birth to their son, Wei An, amid the collapse of the Great Yuan 265.

After True Qi vanished from the world, Qingqing could no longer rely on cultivation to preserve her life. She eventually died of old age and illness, leaving Wei He and their family in mourning 572.

Beneath her soft demeanor, she is independent and resolute. She refused a politically useful marriage to Yan Jiuhai because she did not want to repeat the compromises that had shaped Wan Ling's life. Even when isolated by her peers and pressured by sect elders, she prepared herself to fight for her own future 130 134.
