Background / History

Xia Junxi was the seventh-ranked child of the former emperor and should, by seniority, have been the Seventh Princess. Following the deaths of the former emperor's other descendants, she ascended the throne while concealing her sex, preserving the stability of the court through a male imperial identity. The former emperor had also left contingencies for another descendant—the Sixth Prince—creating the basis for a future succession struggle. 108 112

Before her public revelation, Xia Junxi endured a difficult reign. Prime Minister Jiang Lintian dominated the court, powerful sects increasingly disregarded Great Xia, and the dynasty's internal institutions were divided.
