Background
Ye Xiaofan transmigrated into the body of Ye Tianhe’s son after the original owner died from a severe, undetectable poison. His mother had died when he was young, while his father, a General Banner Officer of the Qingyang County Demon Suppression Division, had recently vanished on a mission without leaving remains. 1
He awakened with only two and a half hours of lifespan remaining and gained a System capable of simplifying cultivation techniques in exchange for silver. His first simplification reduced the Basic Breathing Technique to simply “Breathing,” allowing him to cultivate continuously. 1
The poison was later identified as Three-day Return poison, administered to eliminate him after Ye Tianhe became a liability to Sun Wude’s schemes. Ye Xiaofan completely cleared it only upon reaching the Body Refinement Fourth Layer. 21 34
Appearance
Initially, Ye Xiaofan was a pale, thin, ordinary-looking youth whose severe poisoning left him visibly frail. Cultivation quickly made him more robust, though his complexion remained somewhat pale for a time. 1 6
- His eyes are repeatedly described as unusually bright, deep, or star-like. 4 17
- He commonly carries a longsword across his chest or in his arms. 8 9
- He conceals his identity in the Black Market as a masked, middle-aged swordsman. 7
- During his escape from Qingyang County, he disguises himself as Sun Chenguang. 35
Personality
Ye Xiaofan is pragmatic, ambitious, and intensely focused on survival. His transmigration, poisoning, and hostile surroundings lead him to value strength above all else; he believes overwhelming power can render schemes and enemies meaningless. 3
He is bold toward those who bully or threaten him, from striking Sun Chenyu with a stool on their first confrontation to confronting stronger cultivators and criminal organizations. He is also calculating: he exploits enemies for techniques, silver, pills, and information whenever possible. 1 5 30
Despite his ruthlessness, Ye Xiaofan repays genuine help. He remembers Luo Ming’s guidance, accepts Tie Wuqing’s aid with the intention of repaying it many times over, and treats Xiao Qiaofeng with grief and respect even after being forced to kill him. 17 38 50
Abilities & Skills
System-Assisted Cultivation
Ye Xiaofan possesses a System that identifies techniques, simplifies them for silver, and allows compatible techniques to be fused or refined.
- Simplifying the Basic Breathing Technique made cultivation as simple as breathing. 1
- Simplifying or refining techniques requires increasingly large amounts of silver; mid-grade techniques cost 1,000 taels, high-grade techniques 10,000 taels, and top-grade techniques 100,000 taels. 2 27 31
- Technique fusion can improve a technique’s grade or power, though it can reset its proficiency. 8 17
- The System also stores silver as a balance, enabling Ye Xiaofan to rapidly convert large cash holdings into cultivation resources. 15 30
Five Elements Breathing Arts
His primary cultivation path evolved from the Withered Wood Meets Spring Technique into increasingly advanced five-element breathing arts.
- The Withered Wood Meets Spring Technique initially suppressed his poison and refined unusually dense Qi and Blood. 3 4
- He fused breathing techniques into the high-grade Golden Water Nurturing Wood Marrow Cleansing Technique. 27
- He later refined the top-grade Gengjin Ren Water Nurturing Wood Marrow Cleansing Art, increasing his cultivation gain to eight proficiency per breath and refining Qi and Blood eight strands thick. 31
- By the sixth layer, he had perfected the Five Elements Marrow Cleansing Tendon Changing Art. 33
Sword Drawing Technique
Ye Xiaofan chose the Sword Drawing Technique because its upper limit is unknown and its power rises as more sword arts are integrated into it. 2
- He integrated the incomplete Thirteen Shadowless Swords, increasing the technique’s power by 20% and reaching Minor Accomplishment. 17
- Further integration of sword techniques eventually brought it to Perfection. 32 33
- Its speed and precision allow him to exploit openings, create sword shadows, and kill stronger opponents in rapid exchanges. 19 28
- Even at the fourth layer, his sword strike nearly broke a seventh-layer fox demon’s Qi and Blood Armor. 25
Wind God Steps / Wind Shadow Steps
His movement technique is a core part of his combat style and escape ability.
- Wind God Steps lets him borrow the wind for extreme movement speed and aerial traversal. 2 12
- At Perfection, he could evade stronger opponents and move through battlefields faster than most cultivators could perceive. 10 19
- It later developed into Wind Shadow Steps, enabling afterimages and multiple indistinguishable figures in combat. 33 50
- He used it to outrun the Thorn Crocodile Turtle while carrying Tie Wuqing through the Thorn Swamp. 40
Qi and Blood Phenomena
Ye Xiaofan’s unusually dense Qi and Blood lets him display phenomena well above his realm.
- Qi and Blood Gauze — Manifested at the fourth layer, a feat normally associated with the sixth layer. 21
- Qi and Blood Armor — Formed upon reaching the seventh layer. 37
- Qi and Blood Wolf Smoke — Manifested at the seventh layer despite normally requiring ninth-layer cultivation and Blood Replacement. 37
- Qi and Blood Great Sun — Manifested at the eighth layer, granting strength exceeding Tie Wuqing’s ninth-layer, one-Blood-Replacement state. 45
- Burn Blood — A secret technique that increases his speed by 20%, but damages his meridians and can hinder future advancement. 40
Ten-grade Spiritual Root
Ye Xiaofan possesses a Ten-grade Spiritual Root, the highest possible grade and an extraordinarily rare talent. 42 44
- The inheritance’s Artifact Spirit concealed his true grade, making it externally appear as an Eighth-grade Spiritual Root. 44
- His root allowed him to bypass the Immortal Emperor inheritance’s usual thirteen trials. 44
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Hundred-Forged Treasure Sword — Issued by the Demon Suppression Division upon his early recruitment. 2
- Blood Copper treasure sword — Given by Luo Ming after Ye Xiaofan reached the fourth layer and required a weapon capable of enduring projected Qi and Blood. 22
- Blood Qi Pills — His principal cultivation resource; his rapid growth causes him to consume them at an exceptional rate. 3 4
- Detoxification Pills — Received from Luo Ming and Tie Wuqing during operations against demonic creatures. 17 20
- Storage ring — An Immortal Emperor inheritance item containing resources sufficient through Foundation Establishment; sealed into his chest until he reaches Qi Condensation. 44
- Heart Fire Marrow Cleansing Tendon Changing Art — Top-grade Body Refinement inheritance technique. 44
- Nine Revolutions Burning Meridian Art — Top-grade Qi Condensation inheritance technique. 44
Relationships
- Ye Tianhe — Father and former General Banner Officer. His suspicious death, along with evidence of the Sun Family’s crimes, drives Ye Xiaofan’s desire for revenge. 1 16 50
- Liu Qingshuang — Deceased mother and a daughter of the Liu family. Her history is revealed by the One-armed Swordsman, and Ye Xiaofan later confirms her identity to Liu Ruoxue. 29 47
