Background / History

Shi Yi was an orphan in his previous life, raised under a name chosen by an orphanage dean. Years of study, work, and surviving in society taught him to use flattery and remain self-reliant. Reborn as another orphan, he politely resisted Riverbank villagers’ attempts to adopt him because parental relationships were unfamiliar and unconditional trust no longer came naturally 1.

His knowledge of the original story influenced his choice of Nuoding Academy. He initially hoped that proximity to Tang San would provide safety, while Yu Xiaogang’s books and experience could supply the cultivation knowledge he lacked. Although he preferred Spirit Hall Academy, his starting strength made it impractical 2.

After becoming Yu Xiaogang’s disciple, he devoted himself to reading and cultivation, eventually moving a small bed into his teacher’s room. His later Nuoding routine combined daytime blacksmithing and Core Formation experiments with nighttime cultivation 7 17.
