Background / History

Soul Tools are artifacts activated by a Soul Master's Soul Power. Their operation depends on special materials and engraved Core Formations, which function as channels for Soul Power much like meridians within a Soul Master's body 10 47.

Shi Yi first becomes interested in Soul Tools because Little Ant performs his Soul Ring skills while Shi Yi's own body remains comparatively weak. He views combat-oriented Soul Tools as a means of self-protection and eventually as a potential “second Martial Soul” for a Soul Master 10 14.

Using Yu Xiaogang's Storage Belt as a reference, Shi Yi determines that Core Formations govern a Soul Tool's internal logic. He later applies this research to an Iron Essence sword, using a Wind Crystal and a Dual Core Formation based on interconnected circular loops to create his first successful Soul Tool 10 16.

By the time he reaches Suotuo City, Shi Yi has continued researching materials, blacksmithing, and Core Formations for years. He teaches Tang San the basic principles, but regards Soul Tool design as a creative discipline that cannot be learned by merely copying existing formations 17.
