Biology and Traits
Fierce Beasts are physically formidable predators with powerful bodies, high speed, tenacious vitality, and exceptional defenses. Their hides, scales, and flesh often require alloy weapons reinforced with Inner Breath or stronger power to penetrate. A Martial Disciple may be able to scratch a beast's hide, but cannot sustain a prolonged contest against its stamina and lethality 14 72.
- Many possess special Beast Energies or innate abilities, including fire breath, lightning discharge, invisibility, mental shock, poison, wind manipulation, ice control, and Space Power 72 155 186 220.
- Their combat power can rise at night; darkness makes them more active and can significantly enhance their strength 191 217.
- Fierce Beasts commonly become increasingly violent when wounded or cornered, often entering a frenzied final state rather than retreating 147 506.
- Some high-ranking beasts possess bloodline senses that alert related clans to large-scale deaths among their kind 595.
- In the Southern Barbarian Mountain Range, Fierce Beasts regard humans as food and consider human Martial Artists especially desirable prey 356.
Fierce Beast Cores
Fierce Beast Cores are the energy centers of certain Fierce Beasts, comparable to a martial artist's Dantian.
- Only Elite Grade Fierce Beasts and above are stated to produce cores 76.
- Attribute cores may contain Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Lightning, Light, Darkness, or other elemental properties 76.
- Humans use cores for self-enhancement and mechanical power; Fierce Beasts consume them directly to grow stronger 76.
- Cores are often left intact after a beast is killed and can be recovered from the corpse 76 633.
Behavior and Ecology
Fierce Beasts inhabit wilderness zones, Abyss Rifts, border regions, oceans, and worlds connected through Space Passages. Their numbers can be immense: one Beast God clone controlled an abyssal rift containing more than one hundred million Fierce Beasts 249 304.
- They are inherently savage and bloodthirsty; they cannot be safely tamed and are generally treated as threats requiring elimination 595.
- Ordinary and Elite Fierce Beasts may be driven into irrational mutual slaughter by unstable or violent spiritual energy within a rift 324.
- Powerful beasts can hunt, consume, or kill weaker Fierce Beasts, particularly when driven by frenzy or territorial dominance 324.
- Certain beasts guard rare spiritual herbs, using treasures such as Divine Origin Grass to purify bloodlines, strengthen themselves, and potentially awaken ancestral traits 214.
- At higher levels, Fierce Beasts can organize through packs, territorial rulers, bloodline pressure, telepathic communication, and deliberate military-style coordination 197 218 619.
Beast Tides
A Beast Tide is a mass surge of Fierce Beasts that threatens rifts, cities, and border defenses. Tides may arise naturally from expanding Space Passages and increased Spiritual Energy, or be deliberately launched by powerful beast leaders 194 196 217.
- Expanding Space Passages can release violent Abyssal aura and Spiritual Energy, attracting or producing growing numbers of bloodthirsty beasts 194.
- Spiritual herbs altered by increased energy can cause powerful beasts to evolve, potentially creating Lord Grade threats that intensify a tide 196.
- King Grade Fierce Beasts can drive lower-ranked beasts forward through their aura and authority 217.
- Beast Tides overwhelm hunting squads through numbers; even experienced Great Martial Masters may be forced to fight while retreating 194.
- They have caused widespread civilian and martial artist deaths, including tides attributed to Night Owl's teleportation-array operations 223.
Known Variants
| Variant | Grade / Attributes | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Adamantium Wolf | Ordinary Grade | Has steel-hard silver-white fur and can launch rigid tail hairs as projectiles 108 |
| Silver Moon Wolf | Ordinary Grade; rare Elite advancement | Fast-moving wolf that absorbs moonlight; continuous absorption gives it a very small chance to advance into an Elite Fierce Beast 287 |
| Ice and Snow Giant Bear | Elite Grade | Six meters tall, with fur capable of blocking Yellow Grade High-rank weapons; its forehead ice crystal suggests ice and snow control 155 |
| Gale Leopard | Elite Grade | Wind-element beast famed for speed; launches Wind Blades and possesses strength comparable to a high-grade Martial Master 186 187 |
| Vajra Porcupine | Includes Elite and Lord Grade specimens | A herd may contain multiple Elite beasts led by a Lord Grade porcupine 631 |
| Sky-Rending Eagle | King Grade variants recorded | Flying predator capable of pursuing fleeing martial artists; one was strong enough to gravely threaten Grandmasters 217 |
| Unicorn Giant Lizard | King Grade | Has extremely thick hide and a long-range tongue attack; its weak points are necessary targets for effective damage 496 |
Intelligent and Transformed Forms
Some King Grade and higher Fierce Beasts possess intelligence, speech, leadership structures, and humanoid transformations.
- Two humanoid King Grade beasts were observed near a teleportation formation; their existence suggested that humanoid forms represent an advanced state of King Grade Fierce Beasts 214.
- Night Owl's true form is the Bloodthirsty Demonic Eagle, Fire Tiger King's is the Flame Tiger King, and Brute Bull King retains a massive bull-like true form 220.
- The Demon Shark King, Coral King, and Octopus King could assume half-beast human forms while retaining traits of their original bodies 610.
- Three Beast Kings can fuse into a three-headed, six-armed form, link their thoughts, wield Divine Artifacts, and coordinate attacks as a single combatant 619 620.
- High-ranking beasts may use Teleportation Arrays, Space Power, formations, bloodline pressure, and human collaborators to expand their reach 223 225.
Relationship with Beast Warriors
Beast Warriors are not natural Fierce Beasts, but martial artists altered through fusion with Fierce Beast genes. They are also called Abyss Cultists in the context of the Abyss Church 48.
- Fusion grants enhanced physique, defense, and the ability to transform into beast-like forms 48 387.
- Repeated fusion with stronger beasts erodes their humanity and intensifies their need for slaughter 48.
- Failed suppression of their bestial nature can cause them to become beasts driven only by killing 48.
- High-ranking Fierce Beasts have supported Abyss Cultists, participated in their creation, and sheltered them during operations against humanity 223.
Materials and Value
Fierce Beast corpses are valuable resources for martial artists and exchanges.
- Hides and meat may be worth more than extracted cores; Chen Mo's collected corpses exceeded the value of their cores by nearly threefold 176.
- Teeth, scales, bones, spikes, and hide can be repurposed as weapons or ammunition 195 196.
- Lord Grade teeth are comparable to Mystery Grade weapons and can provide strong armor-piercing performance 196.
- Hunting Fierce Beasts grants General Proficiency Points: ordinary beasts grant 1 point, Elite beasts 10, War Generals 100, Lords 1,000, and King Grade beasts 10,000 113.
Story Role
Fierce Beasts are humanity's principal external threat and a major source of cultivation resources. Their presence outside cities led Great Xia to forbid non-Martial Artists from leaving urban areas to hunt them, as ordinary people are considered little more than prey 14.
Chen Mo repeatedly hunts Fierce Beasts to gain General Proficiency Points, improve his abilities, protect endangered martial artists, and suppress Beast Tides 175 195 218. His discoveries reveal that many Beast Tides are coordinated by intelligent high-ranking beasts, teleportation formations, Beast Emperors, Beast Gods, and the Abyss Church rather than being purely natural disasters 217 223 249.
By later arcs, the scale of the conflict expands from individual rifts to border invasions, deep-sea beast territories, and other worlds ruled by Beast Gods 353 356 601.
