Nature and Advancement

Transcendents are beings who unlock genetic potential by consuming Gene Potions. Their initial potion determines their awakened attributes and strongly influences their future advancement path 2 8.

A mature Extraordinary Sequence combines compatible Gene Potions, exclusive skills, and cultivation methods developed over generations. Following a complete sequence maximizes potential, while mixing potions from different sequences is possible but unpredictable and makes later advancement harder 8.

• Gene Potion quality directly affects gains in strength, toughness, senses, neural response, and attribute purity. Gold-quality potions can produce vastly stronger First Tier Transcendents than Black Iron-quality alternatives 7.
• Exclusive techniques are designed to complement a specific sequence; matching techniques and potions can multiply combat power rather than merely add to it 8.
• High-quality resources—potions, Magical Beast Magic Cores, breathing methods, and secret arts—are crucial to continued advancement and are often monopolized by powerful factions 79 152.

Sequences and Specializations

Transcendent powers vary widely because of the immense number of known sequences and mixed advancement routes 8.

• Fighter Sequence — focuses on strength, toughness, Battle Qi, and martial techniques. Its major branches are the endurance-oriented Qi Master and the explosive, technique-focused Martial Artist 44.
• Battle Doctor Sequence — combines physical strength, resilience, perception, and medical abilities. Its exclusive skills can provide rapid healing and improve Battle-Qi recovery and capacity 61 111.
• Caster Sequence — includes specialized mental-power users such as hypnotists and interrogators capable of detecting lies or influencing cognition 8.
• Mystic System — an exceptionally rare branch whose practitioners may possess unusual mental and supernatural abilities 8.
• Assassin Sequence — can develop through established routes such as the Agile Assassin or Assassination Sequence, each built from compatible advancement potions 8.

Battle Qi and Martial Power

Battle Qi is a major combat resource for martial Transcendents. It reinforces the body, powers movement and martial techniques, and forms increasingly durable defensive layers as a Transcendent advances 323.

A lower-tier Transcendent generally cannot overcome a higher-tier opponent's Bodyguard Battle Qi through force alone. Exceptions require overwhelming physical strength, superior Battle-Qi refinement, or techniques capable of penetrating defensive Qi 323.

Momentum, Artistic Conception, and Law

The Mist Land's advancement system imposes comprehension thresholds that shape Transcendents into stronger combatants than their outer-world counterparts.

• Momentum gives Battle Qi a “soul” and is required for the strongest path into Third Tier. It may be modeled after a Magical Beast's nature, such as the overbearing Thunder Tiger Momentum 214 244.
• Artistic Conception is the Fourth Tier threshold; it transforms martial techniques from imitation into a practitioner's personal combat expression 282 354.
• Law is the Fifth Tier threshold and forms the basis of Legendary-level power 354.
• Demonization manifests a phantom of a deity or divine general, temporarily granting access to higher-level power. It is associated with Divine Power Crystals and the fifth Gene Lock 140 207.

Limits of the Mist Land

The Ice Ridge Wasteland restricts ordinary extraordinary cultivation to the Fifth Tier. Attempts to exert power beyond that limit can create spatial rifts or collapse, forcing some stronger beings to seal or conceal their true power 195 276 277.

The Black Emperor's ancient system intentionally made advancement more difficult within the Mist:

• Third Tier requires Momentum.
• Fourth Tier requires Artistic Conception.
• Fifth Tier requires Law comprehension. 354

This harsh system selects unusually capable Transcendents. Long-term exposure to the black mist, identified as Abyssal Demonic Qi, also gradually strengthens bodies and alters genes, making the Mist Land's inhabitants significantly stronger than outsiders of equal tier 149 352.

Equipment and External Enhancements

• Mechanical armor — commonly used by lower- and mid-tier strength-based Transcendents to improve physical power and defense, though conventional models are usually too slow and inflexible for top-tier combat 28 126.
• Steam Mechanical Power Arms — external exoskeletons that multiply grip strength, block weapon strikes, and can unleash high-force pneumatic attacks after charging 28.
• Legendary-tier armor — ancient alchemical armor that multiplies defensive power when infused with Battle Qi; complete sets are extremely rare 206.
• Divine Power Crystals — condensed remnants of divine power used to support Legendary advancement and Demonization 140 176.
• Magical Beast Magic Cores — resources used for elemental Battle-Qi advancement and body-refining cultivation 152.
