"Were there any witnesses nearby?" Shiraque continued asking.
"We're still investigating. No witnesses have been found yet," the dwarf Vice Deacon replied.
Shiraque crouched down and examined the corpse.
It was largely consistent with what the dwarf had described. The fatal wounds were on the chest and throat.
The wound on the throat looked more like someone had tried to cut off the head.
It was much deeper than an ordinary slit throat.
She reached out and pried open the corpse's mouth for a look. The tongue was still there.
The insignia had been kept in its mouth beforehand, so it was normal that it had not been damaged.
She stood again. "Find a straw mat and wrap up the body."
A nearby member immediately took out a straw mat.
They rolled the corpse up in it.
Shiraque stored both the corpse and the insignia in her Spatial Ring.
They needed to be kept safe in case the murderer found another chance to return and destroy the body.
"Continue the investigation. Since this involves the Association's Whisperers, be especially thorough. Question the shops on both sides. There are signs of a fight here—did no one hear a thing?" Shiraque said, standing where she was.
The dwarf Vice Deacon nodded. "I've already arranged for people to question the shops. I'll report to you once there are results."
"Mm. I'll leave this place to you." Shiraque walked out of the alley.
She hailed a carriage and slowly departed.
The carriage stopped outside the Island Master's Manor.
Shiraque stepped down and knocked on the main gate.
