After the innkeeper agreed, he hurriedly called the staff over to retrieve the discarded items.
Clearly, the previous guest had done something serious.
He couldn't let it affect his business.
While the innkeeper led people outside to search, Wu Heng began his own investigation. He tore open a magic detection scroll, and magical ripples spread outward like rings on water.
Faint grayish-white energy appeared along one side of the bedroom.
The appearance of such traces proved that Necromantic Magic had lingered here, or that a wraith had once wandered through the room.
By now, it was basically certain that the person who had stayed in this room was connected to the wraith possession incident at the Lord's Mansion.
Wu Heng walked over to the bed. It had been cleaned thoroughly, and the bedding had been neatly folded and placed against the inner side.
Only two strands of brown hair remained on the pillow.
After taking a look, Wu Heng returned to the innkeeper standing at the door and asked, "Describe what he looked like."
The innkeeper thought for a moment, then said, "Under thirty, wearing glasses. He looked rather refined, not like a combat profession."
"What color was his hair?" Wu Heng continued.
"Brown. Standard Royal Capital brown." Seeing him bend down to inspect the bed, the innkeeper cautiously asked, "Sir, should I bring the registration book?"
"Bring it here," Wu Heng said.
Soon, the innkeeper returned with a ledger. "He registered under the name Wilhelm, an herbs merchant. He booked the room yesterday afternoon and checked out this morning before leaving directly."
Wu Heng nodded. The timing also matched the deaths at the Lord's Mansion.
As they spoke, a staff member returned carrying several items.
"We found the things," the staff member said carefully.
"You all go outside first."
