Gradually, humanity finally noticed that the distances between the stars ahead were growing smaller and the density of stars was increasing. Seeing this, everyone realized that Human Civilization was about to truly enter the main body of the Perseus Arm.

Even along the shortest route, the distance between the two arms was nearly five thousand light-years. Because of the need for resupply, humanity could not travel in a straight line. Including the time spent replenishing supplies, the journey had actually taken more than five hundred years.
