Background

Xun'er lived with the Xiao Family from childhood and was treated as one of its siblings. Initially timid and reserved, she gradually opened up after Xiao Yan repeatedly brought her to play with the other Xiao children. Her time with the family became the foundation of her attachment to Xiao Yan and her preference for the warmth of the Xiao household over the distant reverence she received in the Gu Clan. 448 811

She later returned voluntarily to the Gu Clan after Ling Quan came to retrieve her. Xun'er understood that Xiao Yan would try to stop her departure if she resisted, and chose to leave a letter rather than risk a confrontation between him and a clan that was not uniformly friendly toward the former Xiao Clan. 447
