Background / History
Hongjun is a reincarnated Chaos Demon God who survived the Creation calamity associated with Pangu. Pangu's Great Dao of Power remains a source of particular fear to him, as Pangu annihilated the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods in the distant past. 46 100
After harmonizing with the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun becomes its spokesperson, but is not fully its master. The Heavenly Dao's operational rules restrict him, while the development and strengthening of the Primordial World reduce his degree of Dao integration. 6 11 25
His ultimate objective is to transcend the Heavenly Dao. To create the conditions for this, he secretly suppresses the Primordial World's development and seeks its decline toward the Dharma Ending Age, intending to weaken the Heavenly Dao's position and increase his own integration with it. 2 11 25
Hongjun's earlier schemes include placing the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors under house arrest, concealing the Kongtong Seal, manipulating the Investiture of the Gods, arranging Hong Yun's death for Primordial Purple Qi, and restricting the Three Pure Ones through the Saintfall Pills. 5 73 86 143
Personality
Hongjun is calculating, patient, and intensely self-serving. He treats the Primordial World, its factions, and even his disciples as pieces in a long-term plan for transcendence; its prosperity matters to him only when it benefits his own path. 25 28 144
He generally maintains a cold, detached demeanor, particularly when wielding Heavenly Dao power. However, Taiqing's repeated disruptions expose his insecurity: Hongjun becomes increasingly desperate, seeks outside allies, and resorts to dangerous power such as the Black Great Dao when his authority fails him. 65 99 159 187
Abilities & Skills
Heavenly Dao Authority
As one harmonized with the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun can wield its authority on a vast scale.
- Summons Sages directly to Purple Cloud Palace through their Dao hearts. 6
- Unleashes Heavenly Dao power capable of shattering Chaos and placing immense pressure even on Sages. 65 81
- Uses Heavenly Dao authority for deduction, surveillance, and attempts to locate hidden variables, Dao Fruits, and threats to his control. 13 25 50
- Can influence the Will of the Heavenly Dao and invoke punishments, though he cannot override its fundamental rules. 6 111
- His control is limited by the Heavenly Dao itself; beneficial changes to the world may proceed beyond his ability to stop them. 6 25
Dao Harmonization
Hongjun's cultivation is founded on merging with the Heavenly Dao rather than independently transcending it.
- His Dao realm approaches the Heavenly Dao Realm when he fully mobilizes Heavenly Dao Authority. 81
- He eventually merges further with the Heavenly Dao and enters the Heavenly Dao Realm. 144
- His authority depends on his Heavenly Dao karmic position; Taiqing's superior karmic position prevents Hongjun from affecting Taiqing's Dao Fruit. 160
- Taiqing ultimately uses Source Authority to abolish Hongjun's role as the Heavenly Dao's spokesperson. 196
Three Corpses Technique
Hongjun's Three Corpses method is secretly designed as a control mechanism.
- The technique allows him to target and potentially control practitioners at a critical moment. 98 99
- He forms an evil corpse to confront the Three Pure Ones and later produces a good corpse from a fragment of the Creation Jade Tablet. 46 98
- His good corpse attempts to seize Taiqing's origin but is annihilated within the Primordial Origin. 98 99
- Once the scheme is exposed, cultivators across the Primordial World abandon the technique, damaging the Mystic Gate's fortune and Hongjun's prestige. 99
Black Great Dao Empowerment
Hongjun accepts and refines a contaminated Black Great Dao fragment supplied through Yang Mei's side.
- The fragment initially assimilates him, covering his body in black rule threads. 187
- He eventually regains control and advances to the sixth level of the Heavenly Dao Realm. 188
- The enhancement allows him to wield power without relying entirely on the Heavenly Dao, but his later full-force Black Great Dao assault is countered by Taiqing's Primordial Chaos Creation Dao. 188 196
