Background / History

Wanda loses her brother when Sokovia vanishes, leaving her unable to bury him or see him one last time. She joins the Avengers afterward, but regards the arrangement as effectively forced and finds that neither the Avengers base nor any rented home can replace Sokovia. Her grief leaves her withdrawn for weeks. 4 6 7

During a mission to save Captain America, Wanda loses control of a bomb with Chaos Magic and causes civilian casualties. Overwhelmed by guilt, public condemnation, and the belief that superheroes bring destruction, she considers abandoning her powers and avoids crowded places beneath a hood. 7 11

Tony Stark gives Wanda Su Yi’s card and recommends psychiatric treatment. At Su Yi’s office, she lowers her guard after seeing his photograph with Hulk, introduces herself, and confides in him about Sokovia, her coerced Avengers service, the accident, and her wish to live quietly in a small town. 8 12 14

Wanda and Su Yi feel an immediate, unusual familiarity upon meeting; Su Yi attributes it to the connection between Wanda’s Chaos Magic and his Phoenix Force, both described as ancient powers. Their counseling sessions develop into mutual trust and a romantic relationship. 13 42 69

Appearance

Wanda initially conceals herself in ordinary clothing to avoid recognition, but later embraces a more distinct Scarlet Witch presentation as her confidence and magical training grow. 11 12 244

  • Initially wears blue jeans, an oversized gray hoodie, and keeps the hood raised in public. 11 12
  • Has long dark-red hair, which becomes wine red after absorbing the Bloodlust Teigu. 244
  • Can create or alter clothing through magic; she rapidly masters costume-change magic at Kamar-Taj. 197
  • Wears two scarlet sling rings designed to complement her Scarlet Witch identity. 142
  • Bears a scarlet Bloodlust mark over her heart after completing the Teigu absorption. 244

Personality

Wanda initially longs for an ordinary, private life rather than superhero work. The destruction of Sokovia, her brother’s death, and the civilian deaths caused by her uncontrolled magic leave her deeply guilty, depressed, and afraid of using her powers around others. 7 11 14

With support from Su Yi and successful rescue work, she becomes more confident, decisive, and publicly heroic. She prioritizes civilians during crises, such as luring the Lizardman away from a bridge and organizing civilians’ evacuation from a crowded market. 37 95

She remains affectionate and protective toward Su Yi, trusts his guidance, and is determined to improve through formal magical training. Despite her public prominence, she prefers domestic life and expresses contentment with cooking and caring for her household. 98 142 208 233
