Academy Years and Jiraiya's Instruction

Minato enters the Ninja Academy as a civilian-born child and immediately befriends Hyuga Soji. He introduces Soji to their classmates, helping the socially reserved Hyuga genius join the group 11 15.

His perfect ninja-tool throwing score prompts a dispute over his training: Danzo wants him for Root, while the Third Hokage prefers Anbu. Jiraiya instead seeks to take him as his disciple 16 17. After two months together, Jiraiya regards Minato's character and talent exceptionally highly and begins to suspect that his blue-eyed student is the Child of Prophecy 20.

Minato falls for Kushina Uzumaki when she transfers into their class, but his usual social confidence fails him when approaching her 32. When Cloud shinobi kidnap her, he pursues them with Soji rather than waiting for reinforcements. The pair defeat her captors, with Minato personally overcoming an elite shinobi 34 36.

After the Academy reopens following a spy scare, Minato proposes skipping class to train and brings Kushina into the group. Their shared training strengthens the friendships among Minato, Kushina, Soji, Homura, and the Ino-Shika-Cho trio 38.

Wartime Growth
