Background / History

During the Witch-Demon Calamity, Zhunti’s Good Corpse incarnation secretly targeted the Ten Golden Crow Princes. Their emergence from Tang Valley led to the catastrophe of ten suns scorching the Primordial World and escalated the conflict between the Witch and Demon races. 19

He later joined the struggle for the Chaos Bell, attempting to seize it with the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree before Nuwa counterattacked with the Red Embroidered Ball. Tongtian’s intervention ultimately prevented Zhunti from obtaining the treasure. 20

Zhunti and Jieyin sought the position of Imperial Tutor to the Human Race’s Three Sovereigns from Li Er, offering Saintly karma in exchange. Li Er refused because he had already chosen Xuandu for the role. 27

At the Heavenly Court’s Peach Banquet, Hongyun confronted Zhunti and Jieyin over the karma surrounding Hongyun’s lost Primordial Violet Qi. Zhunti subsequently attempted to overpower the Three Sovereigns and seize the Kongtong Seal. The seal repelled his assault, destroyed his Sixteen-Foot Golden Body, and—through Li Er’s intervention—shattered his Saint Dao Fruit. 35 36

After his fall, Zhunti and Jieyin relinquished Daoist Sect Destiny and were expelled from the Daoist Sect lineage. Zhunti later approached Haotian in an attempt to build ties with the Heavenly Court. 37 38

At Peach Mountain, Zhunti clashed with Xuandu, who had come to demand an explanation for his schemes against the Daoist Sect. Xuandu deployed the Heaven, Earth, and Man lamps in the Three Talents Great Formation, forcing Zhunti into a disadvantage. Li Er then used the Chaos Bell to kill Zhunti; Hongjun restored him, but only at the initial Heavenly Immortal realm. 41 42

During the Investiture of the Gods, Zhunti accepted Shen Gongbao into the Buddhist Sect and believed the bearer of the Visage of the Flying Bear could claim the Investiture of the Gods List. Shen Gongbao failed, while Jiang Ziya successfully claimed both the list and the God-Beating Whip. Zhunti lost the Green Lotus Precious Color Flag to Li Er in their wager. 49 50

Zhunti then attempted to destabilize Yin Shang by using his Dao Body, Subhuti, to possess Di Xin. Jiang Ziya exposed the scheme with the God-Beating Whip; Nuwa attacked Western Spiritual Mountain, and Di Xin used the Kongtong Seal to destroy Subhuti. 52 53

Ancestor Minghe later destroyed Zhunti’s Phoenix Cries over Mount Qi phenomenon, further damaging him and weakening Buddhist Sect fortune. When heavenly punishment descended upon Spiritual Mountain, Zhunti sacrificed an Evil Corpse Dao Body to stop it, sustaining severe Dao injuries. 56

Although he recovered enough to resume the early Saint stage, Zhunti remained the weakest among the Saints and focused on expanding Buddhism rather than pursuing a higher cultivation rank. He unsuccessfully tried to rescue Randeng from Yuanshi, fought Yuanshi alongside Jieyin, and saw half of the Buddhist Sect’s fortune damaged. 59 62 63

At the end of the Investiture of the Gods conflict, Zhunti’s Good Corpse was used to fill a vacant position on the Investiture of the Gods Platform. He was ultimately annihilated by Taishang for using heterodox arts against him. 65 75 76

Personality

Zhunti is ambitious, opportunistic, and highly concerned with the rise of the Western Buddhist Sect. He repeatedly seeks treasures, influential disciples, Human Race authority, and openings in major tribulations to strengthen his faction. 20 27 49 51

He is also pragmatic when defeat is unavoidable. After losing to Xuandu and Yuanshi’s side, he accepts the loss rather than provoke an unwinnable confrontation; after repeated setbacks, he abandons hopes of matching the other Saints in cultivation and prioritizes sect development. 42 59

His pragmatism is tempered by arrogance and resentment. Zhunti initially assumes his Saint status places him beyond judgment, becomes enraged when Li Er shatters his Dao Fruit, and repeatedly reacts bitterly to humiliation. 36 42 50
