Background / History

Caroline was raised within Ember Base and trained by the Doctor as a mechanoid tool created to assist Tiandao Siming. The Doctor suppressed her hobbies and emotions, regarding independent thought and human feeling as liabilities. Her childhood world was largely confined to the base, its nearby beach, and the sea horizon beyond it. 60 61

Her attachment to dolphins began during this confinement. After the Doctor destroyed her dolphin doll, Tiandao secretly repaired it and defended her right to retain emotions and personal interests. This became a defining foundation of their partnership. 60

During the Ember Organization’s final assessment, Caroline served alongside Tiandao as a steady, responsible counterpart to his reckless confidence. She initially saw herself as his supporting “shadow,” preferring reconnaissance, analysis, and battlefield coordination to direct confrontation. 1 39

Caroline entered Quantum Calculation to advance her Star Source, but awoke two and a half months later to find Ember Base devastated and Tiandao absent.
