Reff was a senior leader of the Black Knight Pirates, serving as their vice-captain and acting as Elizabeth's uncle and protector. When Roland's growing strength created internal concern within the pirate group, Reff pressed Elizabeth to decide whether she would marry Roland; otherwise, he was prepared to suppress Roland's influence. Misreading Elizabeth's hesitation as shyness, he moved to arrange the engagement himself 184.

Following the Brown Family's attack on Roland's territory, Reff promised that the Black Knight Pirates would protect Roland even if he came into open conflict with the Mandy and Oroko families. He later appeared at Roland and Elizabeth's engagement ceremony as its principal representative 189 201.
