Background / History
The Terra Kingdom was one of the Human race's Twelve Great Kingdoms and an old North Continent power with nearly a thousand years of heritage. Located beside the Beastkin Empire, it served as a major human frontier state; its continued survival gave the Human Alliance time to mobilize against Beastkin incursions. 107 727
Its royal capital, Gram City, was named for the kingdom's guardian, the Earth Element Dragon Gram Benedict Brooks. The city had been destroyed twice by Beastkins and breached four times, yet repeatedly rebuilt and remained a symbol of protection for the kingdom's citizens. 397
In its early years, Terra supported Pioneer Knights expanding into the Sea of Ten Thousand Islands. That aid was later withdrawn as the kingdom consolidated internally and faced increasing pressure from the Beastkin Empire. Pioneer Knights remained subject to annual inspections under a Human Alliance mandate. 8 29
Territory and Society
- The kingdom's heartland lay around Gram City; its loss was regarded as tantamount to national collapse. 93
- Dodge Province, in central Terra, was a wealthy agricultural region dominated by the Duke Thomas family; half of its county towns were Thomas fiefs. 103
- Before its fall, the kingdom controlled more than ten million square kilometers of land. 725
- Its eastern four provinces covered more than 300,000 square kilometers and later became Roland's mainland bridgehead after their cession. 618
- Terra's noble structure included eight major ducal families. 725
- The kingdom possessed significant mineral, magic-material, and agricultural resources; after annexation, these resources were assessed as at least ten times the Sacred Co-Prosperity Kingdom's prior mineral and magic-material base, with roughly four times its farmland. 730
Government and Armed Forces
- Royal family — Ruled from Gram City under King Phillips.
- Prime Minister Cameron — Phillips's principal adviser and a frequent envoy in negotiations with Roland. 397 567
- Minister of Military Affairs Tobias — Commanded the 700,000-man central army during the final war. 719
- Guardian Gram — A High Legendary Earth Element Dragon who served as the kingdom's ultimate military deterrent. 725
- Imperial Guard Legion — Elite royal troops deployed during the Beast Slaying Island campaign. 561 566
- Azure Horse Knights — An elite cavalry force led by Frederic; it was badly mauled by Roland's Dark Angel Legion. 566
- Earth Dragon Knights — The royal family's premier cavalry, capped at fewer than 2,000 riders. Each rider was an Earth Warrior mounted on a high-level Earth Dragon; the unit was considered capable of contending with Hell Knights in comparable numbers. 573
- Mage Regiments — Terra fielded mage forces in major wars, including during its defense against the Beastkin Empire. 103 340
Major Conflicts
Beastkin Invasion
A Beastkin force of four million, including ten Golden Behemoths and chieftains of three of the Nine Great Races, invaded Terra in what was described as one of the three largest crises in the kingdom's history. 90
The Beastkins bypassed the Fortress of Radiance and Modo Mega Fortress, broke into Terra's hinterland, and ravaged four provinces within three days. Over the first fifteen days, twelve provinces were devastated, supplies were plundered, and tens of millions of humans were captured. 91 93
Autran, Ribela, Silver Lion, and Ailwyn sent reinforcements, allowing a second defense line to be established across Guz, Dodge, and Will provinces. Despite more than three million allied soldiers, the line was repeatedly breached. 93
After the war, the Human Alliance exchanged grain for five million captured Terra citizens, leaving the kingdom to recover the remaining five million itself. The invasion also wiped out more than one hundred northern noble families, including Count families. 107 114
War against Roland
Terra initially attempted to draw Roland back into its political orbit by offering him a dukedom after his rise as a Dragon Knight. Its royal family and the Solomon Family regarded his potential as a major asset—or a potentially existential threat should he turn hostile. 397 399
After the Truce Order ended, Terra's Noble Alliance sent 300,000 troops and more than 10,000 ships against Roland in the Chaotic Sea Domain. The force suffered roughly 20,000 casualties before reaching Double Gate Island due to Green-Haired Turtle Knight harassment. 383 384 385
At the Black Fortress, Terra's noble coalition fielded more than 200,000 troops under Ansel. The assault suffered severe losses against Roland's defenses, forcing Ansel to commit Sky Warriors. 390
Terra later escalated its campaign against Roland through attacks on Beast Slaying Island. Frederic's army was surrounded by Roland's forces; the Azure Horse Knights and Imperial Guard suffered devastating losses against the Dark Angel Legion. 561 566
With its strength reduced to less than 30% of its former peak after wars against Beastkins and demons, Terra sought peace. Roland demanded four eastern coastal provinces and 380 million gold coins; Terra initially refused to cede territory. 566 569
Final War and Collapse
Terra, Cardina, and Ribela formed a strategic alliance, while the Terra royal family arranged a marriage alliance with the Sacred Alliance Empire's Arkmund Family. These moves complicated Roland's plans to annex Terra. 623
After the Ten-Year Truce Order's constraints weakened and Terra appeared ready to act against Roland, the Sacred Co-Prosperity Kingdom trapped Terra's central army in the Sea of Ten Thousand Islands. Tobias commanded 700,000 troops at Coral Island, while Frederic commanded 300,000 on the northern front near Beast Slaying Island. 719
Terra's final reserve of 70,000 troops surrendered, leaving the kingdom near collapse. Roland then launched a mainland invasion with 500,000 troops, occupying half the kingdom in half a month and all territory except Gram City within a month. 722 724 725
Gram attempted to preserve a western remnant of the kingdom, but Roland rejected territorial compromise. Augustin and Dragon King Zarick removed Gram from the conflict, depriving Terra of its last great protector. Gram City fell, Phillips was captured, and the Terra Kingdom was annihilated. 726
Relationships
- Human Alliance — Terra was a member state and a frontline bulwark against the Beastkin Empire; the Alliance mobilized reinforcements and negotiated for the return of captured Terra citizens. 93 107
- Beastkin Empire — Terra's principal northern enemy; repeated invasions severely depleted the kingdom's population, armies, and noble houses. 90 91 566
- Arcane Empire — Terra was formerly associated with its political camp, but later shifted toward the Sacred Alliance Empire without meaningful Arcane retaliation. 623
- Sacred Alliance Empire — Terra formed a marriage alliance with the Arkmund Family through Princess Doris and Kendrick Arkmund. 623
- Cardina Kingdom and Ribela Kingdom — Formed a strategic alliance with Terra. 623
- Sacred Co-Prosperity Kingdom — Terra's eventual conqueror and successor state; it annexed Terra's lands, resources, troops, and institutions. 726 730
- Roland — Initially a Terra noble and Pioneer Knight, later became the kingdom's chief rival and conqueror. 29 397 726
- Gram Benedict Brooks — Terra's guardian dragon and final strategic safeguard; removed from human territory when the kingdom fell. 725 726
Legacy
- Most former Terra Saint Domain experts, the Imperial Guard Legion, Azure Horse Knights, First and Second Legions, and many prisoners later swore allegiance to the Sacred Co-Prosperity Kingdom. 740
- Former Terra officials were removed and replaced, while nobles faced demotions, land exchanges, loss of feudal authority, and forced sales of core assets. 732
- The former royal family retained fewer than 2,000 Earth Dragon Knights and a handful of Saint Domain experts; its prospects of restoration were considered negligible. 740
- Terra's annexation gave the Sacred Co-Prosperity Kingdom a continental land base, abundant resources, and a foundation that elevated it into one of the North Continent's foremost powers. 728 740
