Background / History

Origins and Heavenly Dao Patronage

Hongjun’s previous existence was the Qi Demon God, an unexceptional member of the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods. After being struck by Pangu’s axe, he reincarnated as an Innate Divine Demon. His reincarnated form inherited the former Demon God’s legacy, but not its original body or Dao Soul 347 568 631.

Obtaining the Jade Plate of Creation transformed his prospects. Its assistance with Dao comprehension allowed him to overtake stronger-born peers, while his increasing fortune brought further treasures and spiritual roots. Hongjun recognized these opportunities as signs of the Heavenly Dao’s patronage 354 610 631.

Dao-Demon Conflict

At ninety-nine percent comprehension, Hongjun discovered that the Heavenly Dao was deliberately withholding his final breakthrough. It revealed a planned Dao-Demon Conflict in which he would have to defeat Luohu. Although the two disliked one another, Hongjun acknowledged that they had no grievance serious enough to justify a death struggle before this imposed conflict 606 607.

Hongjun prepared by sending his corpses to investigate Luohu and strengthening his relationships with other Innate Divine Demons. He used access to the Jade Plate of Creation as an inducement to recruit allies, including Old Ancestor Qiankun 608 609 610 611.

Luohu’s Immortal Slaying Sword Formation proved dangerous even against Hongjun’s treasures and allies. Hongjun eventually killed Luohu with the Pangu Banner, seized his possessions and Great Dao origin, and recovered the Four Immortal Slaying Swords and their damaged formation diagram. The conflict left him burdened with karmic debt for damaging the Western Continent’s earth veins 626 628 630.

Dao Attainment and the Mysterious Gate

After repairing the Western Continent’s earth veins enough to prevent their collapse, Hongjun returned east and accepted the Three Pure Ones as disciples. He recognized their exceptional origins as manifestations of Pangu’s primordial spirit, even before learning that the Heavenly Dao had designated them as future Saints 645.

Hongjun attained the Dao in the East Sea and announced that he would preach in the Outer Chaos. Seeking acquaintance with the five supposed earlier Dao attainers, he instead met Bai Yu and discovered that all five manifestations had come from one person mastering five complete Origin Great Daos 647 648 649 650 651.

His sermons established genuine teacher–student karma with the listeners and gathered the fortune needed to make him Dao Ancestor in substance as well as appointment. He subsequently declared the Method of Slaying Three Corpses the orthodox inheritance of his Mysterious Gate 664 674 690.

After his public teaching, Hongjun gave his disciples and Fuxi a thousand-year private lesson on the mysteries of Sages, then merged with the Dao. Administrative duties continued to prevent him from studying the Destiny Great Dao, leaving him eager for his disciples to become Saints and assume his workload 719 724 725.

Lotus Lantern World

In the Lotus Lantern World, Hongjun’s objective was not escape from the Heavenly Dao but control over it and the world itself. While competing with it for authority, he also cooperated with it to keep the six Saints restricted 125 137.

His confrontation with Bai Yu carried them through the River of Time into the Witch-Demon Calamity. Bai Yu’s Blade of Destiny annihilated the world’s Origin Law of Destiny, damaged the Jade Plate of Creation, and left Heaven’s Path incomplete. Hongjun accepted a fragment of Destiny from Bai Yu, bowed to him, restored the era’s events, and returned to the future 14.

Yuanshi later escaped with seventy percent of the World Origin. Although Hongjun eventually completed his refinement of the Heavenly Dao, the depleted reserves prevented him from condensing a Nascent Great Dao and beginning the world’s advancement toward a Great Thousand World 367 368.

When Yuanshi returned, Hongjun concealed how much he already knew about the Chat Group and Myriad Worlds City. His performance was intended to secure an invitation to the city, though his anger at Yuanshi’s theft and refusal to include him was genuine 375 377.

Appearance

• Elderly features: Described as having an old face, thick brows, and large eyes 557 611.
• Purple-wreathed eyes: In the Lotus Lantern World, hazy purple Qi surrounds his eyes 12.
• Dao manifestations: Often seated cross-legged with the Jade Plate of Creation above his head; after controlling or integrating with the Heavenly Dao, a Heavenly Dao Dharma Wheel appears behind him 369 719.

Personality

Hongjun combines caution with persistent ambition. He understands that his original foundation was inferior to that of figures such as Yang Mei and Luohu, and openly credits the Jade Plate of Creation for his success. Repeatedly losing his expected place as the first, second, and third Dao attainer damages his confidence without breaking his Dao heart 568 574 631.

He is an accomplished networker who cultivates relationships through generous Dao discussions, shared interests, and carefully chosen benefits. His friendliness is selective: powerful cultivators and valuable connections receive far more attention than ordinary beings. He also conceals advantages and uses deception when it serves his goals 377 485 608 611.

His reverence for the Great Dao is sincere. He willingly prostrates himself before Dao-attainment phenomena and considers this respect rather than humiliation. After attaining Hunyuan himself, his ambitions expand toward mastering multiple Great Daos, with Bai Yu becoming his model 636 667 718.

As Dao Ancestor, Hongjun remains distant from the masses and regards calamity protagonists as expendable pieces. He nevertheless gives his own disciples substantial additional instruction—partly out of preference, and partly because their advancement would free him to pursue his cultivation 718 719 725.

Qi Great Dao

Hongjun’s native path is the Qi Great Dao, inherited through his identity as the reincarnated Qi Demon God 612.

• Encompasses all forms of qi and a broad range of phenomena 612.
• Is the Origin Great Dao most compatible with his innate nature, despite not ranking among the supreme paths such as Time or Space 612 636.
• Reached complete mastery upon his attainment of Hunyuan 648 653.

Method of Slaying Three Corpses

Hongjun created this method to clear the Dao heart of distracting thoughts and assist Great Dao comprehension. He later established it as the orthodox teaching of Xuanmen 574 690.

• Realm sequence: One corpse corresponds to early Quasi-Saint, two to middle, three to late, and their merger to perfected Quasi-Saint 693.
• Independent action: His corpses gather intelligence, test enemies, and fight separately; before his Dao attainment, their combat strength could rival perfected Quasi-Saints 608 609.
• Treasure vessels: Hongjun used three small Jade Plate of Creation fragments sharing the same origin 692 693.

• Investigation: Surveys the Three Realms and traces the River of Time to uncover Yuanshi’s connection to Myriad Worlds City despite concealed heavenly secrets 137.
• Primordial World: Holds the position of Heavenly Dao Representative and senior administrator, but remains subordinate to the vastly stronger Primordial Heavenly Dao 641 678.
• World boundaries matter: His Lotus Lantern World authority cannot overcome Bai Yu’s superior Great Thousand World Origin Laws merely because their cultivation levels are comparable 12.

Dao Scholarship and Teaching

The Jade Plate of Creation gives Hongjun broad, though mostly shallow, knowledge of the Three Thousand Great Dao Principles. His deepest expertise remains the Qi Great Dao 653.

• Bai Yu — Overwhelmingly stronger cultivator whom Hongjun seeks to befriend and emulate. Their Primordial World Dao discussion enriches both, but Bai Yu severs Hongjun’s attempted master–disciple karmic tie. In the Lotus Lantern World, Bai Yu’s Destiny gift enables Hongjun to overcome the Heavenly Dao 14 363 650 653 654.
