Background

Wei Hongfang began as a guard serving Yan Fuhai before Yan became emperor. Already an Innate Realm martial artist, he chose castration and became a eunuch to rise closer to Yan Fuhai, sacrificing his potential path to the Great Grandmaster realm for status and access to power 248 271.

After Yan Fuhai took power, Wei rose to Lord Eunuch, becoming the central figure through whom palace authority was exercised. He spent decades at Yan's side, cultivated a reputation as a powerful and feared court figure, and regarded his position as the summit of his life 211 238.

Appearance

Wei Hongfang is a fat, physically incomplete eunuch whose body belies his speed and martial ability.

Personality

Wei is a skilled flatterer and an outwardly obedient servant. He understands how to please Yan Fuhai, praises the emperor indirectly, and presents his life as something Yan may take at will 184 185. His early loyalty is genuine: he repeatedly places himself between Yan Fuhai and danger, including during Prince An's attempted coup 202.

His loyalty is nevertheless inseparable from status. Wei is arrogant toward those beneath him, highly sensitive to humiliation, and obsessed with preserving or reclaiming the Lord Eunuch position. Repeated defeats, Yan Fuhai's growing distrust, and Yun Hu's rise transform that pride into resentment 204 223 245.

After being stripped of rank and possessions, Wei refuses to leave Great Qian because starting over would mean abandoning the status for which he sacrificed his martial future. His eventual betrayal stems from this resentment and his refusal to remain a discarded servant 238 248 278.

Lord Eunuch of the Imperial Court

Wei meets Ye Liuyun after Ye becomes Southern Pacification Commissioner. His arrogance and his adopted sons' jealousy establish an early rivalry with Ye 134. While Yan Fuhai considers recruiting Ye for his talent, Wei advocates eliminating him, partly suspecting Ye of killing several of his adopted sons 184.

Purgatory Conflict

When the Van Sect seeks to dismantle Purgatory and build a temple, Wei confronts Ye there. Their clash reveals Wei's All Rivers Flow to the Sea technique, but Ye's Blazing Yang Inner Force overwhelms its absorption ability and injures Wei 196 197.

Autumn Hunt and Palace Challenges

Wei loyally protects Yan Fuhai during Prince An's attempted usurpation, only to be defeated by Pei Liang 202. After Yan Fuhai's Land Immortal power draws challengers to the Imperial City, Wei is forced to fight wandering martial artists continuously at the palace gates, becoming exhausted, resentful, and increasingly negligent in his duties 205 206.

Conflict with His Adopted Sons

Yun Hu and Guan Bao use the War God Art to advance rapidly, take over the palace-gate challenges, and earn Yan Fuhai's interest. Yan deliberately uses them to balance Wei, while Wei—unaware they have defeated a Grandmaster—tries to shift blame onto them 211 214 221.

When Yun reaches the Grandmaster realm, Wei recognizes that his adopted sons have become a direct threat. Their confrontation leaves Wei repelled, deepening Yan Fuhai's dissatisfaction with his declining strength 222 223.

Dismissal and Fall from Grace

Wei volunteers to warn Ye Liuyun on Yan Fuhai's behalf, expecting obedience. Ye refuses to submit and sends Wei away with a swollen face, further exposing his weakness before Yan Fuhai 231 232.

Yan Fuhai removes Wei as Lord Eunuch, banishes him from the palace, then formally demotes him to a commoner and confiscates all bestowed property 233 237. Abandoned by former allies and stripped of wealth, Wei remains in Great Qian hoping for reinstatement despite being repeatedly humiliated 238 245.

Betrayal of Yan Fuhai

After learning Yun Hu is intended to replace him, Wei breaks down and kills an imperial official in the street. Yan Fuhai orders Yun to capture him, severing Wei's remaining attachment to his former master 246.

Fu Zhengqing offers Wei refuge and draws out his knowledge that Yan Fuhai cannot freely use his Land Immortal power due to serious backlash. In exchange for a promised return to the Lord Eunuch position, Wei agrees to help overthrow Yan Fuhai 248.

At the Heaven Worship conflict, Wei returns appearing loyal and is promised his old position back. He instead drives a disposable High-Grade Spirit Artifact dagger into Yan Fuhai, declaring that he refuses to remain a discarded dog 278.
