Time Magic Reversed (4): The Chaotic Torrent of Time

Transfiguration had always been a wondrous field. It was so profound and vast that wizards had been forced to separate it from Charms and establish it as its own discipline.

Young Wizards learned Transfiguration through plenty of spells and wand movements, but the higher reaches of the field often required no incantations at all.

Animagus transformations, Ritual Magic, the Animation Charm, Voldemort's Possession Magic, Dumbledore's Statue Guard Charm, and so on and so forth—there were far too many branches to count.

Magic was a wisdom with no visible end. The difference between an ordinary Wizard and a Master was greater than the difference between a human and a pig.

It was easier to understand if Anthony borrowed a field he knew well from his previous life.

Mathematics, for example.

An ordinary person's mathematical talent only carried them as far as Basic Geometry, Order of Operations, and Powers.

Those with a little more talent might reach Calculus, Series, Vector Space, and so on.

But all of that was only a shallow beginning on the path of mathematics. Most people stopped there for good; swinging a sword a hundred thousand times or solving a hundred thousand problems wouldn't get them any further.

Group Theory, Differential Geometry, Automorphic Forms... The Four Color Theorem, Fermat's Last Theorem, P=NP...

Look up, and there stretched an endless, brilliant starry sky—a vast and intricate world of wonders without end.

It was hard for an ordinary high school student to understand how a mathematician could propose a conjecture so ridiculously advanced that no one would be able to fully grasp it for the next hundred years. After all, they might not even be able to pass a Calculus exam.

The magical world of wizards was just like mathematics.

It demanded an extraordinary degree of talent.
