Background / History

Artoria was the King of Britain and leader of the Knights of the Round Table. She originally bore the Sword in the Stone, Caliburn, and later received Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake after Caliburn broke. At her peak, she fought alongside Gawain to defeat the dragon Vortigern and brought Britain ten years of peace. 246 371

In the Battle of Camlann, Artoria defeated the rebel Mordred but was mortally wounded. Bedivere was entrusted to return Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake; unable to accept her king's death, Bedivere failed to do so. In the worldline that produced the Lion King, Artoria did not die and instead took up Rhongomyniad, eventually becoming a god-like being. 258 259

The Artoria summoned by Fu Yuan is a mature Lancer who had set aside the Holy Sword and taken up the Holy Lance. She states that removing the Holy Sword's sheath allowed her to grow taller and lead her people forward. 77 249

Appearance

Artoria is a tall, mature woman whose composed bearing differs markedly from her younger Saber manifestation. Her ordinary Lancer armor can dissolve into magical light when unnecessary. 75 76

Personality

Artoria is calm, courteous, and resolute. Even when unexpectedly summoned as Lancer rather than Saber, she accepts her role without agitation. She values honor in battle and appreciates Fu Yuan's willingness to face opponents openly rather than conceal her true name. 75 114 135

Her restraint over Rhongomyniad reflects a strong sense of responsibility: she refuses to misuse its overwhelming power and accepts the Round Table's authority to restrain her if she ever strays from the proper path. She also rejects participation in a Holy Grail War that would unleash All the World's Evil upon the world. 76 77

As the Lion King, Artoria's divinity makes her detached and capable of treating lives as numbers in service of preserving humanity. She did not order Agravain's massacre of failed Holy Selection candidates, but tacitly approved it to preserve those who could enter Camelot. She later admits this choice with remorse. 348 356 357

Despite this detachment, Artoria retains deep attachment to Fu Yuan. His presence causes her to act with unusual warmth and vulnerability, and she is visibly pleased by his growing strength even while they stand on opposing sides. 239 346 371

Fourth Holy Grail War

Fu Yuan summons Artoria as Lancer using Avalon, despite expecting Saber. Artoria immediately identifies herself as his Servant and entrusts Avalon to him for protection. 75 76

She refuses to fight for a corrupted Greater Grail that could doom the world, then spars with Fu Yuan to assess his strength. After he blocks Rhongomyniad with his bare hands and endures the exchange without injury, she acknowledges him and allows him to address her by name. 77 80

When Beast 666 threatens the world, Artoria convenes the Round Table and releases seven restraints on Rhongomyniad. She and Fu Yuan coordinate their attacks after evacuating the other combatants. 239 240

Sixth Singularity: Lion King Camelot

The Lion King establishes the Immortal Sacred City Camelot and implements the Holy Selection ritual, preserving selected humans inside the city while rejected Mountain Dwellers are slaughtered by the Lawful Knights. 281 348

Her underlying purpose is the Noah's Ark plan: gathering humanity's final “embers” in Camelot to protect them from the Burning of Human Order. She intentionally allows Ramesses II to obtain the Holy Grail so that Chaldea—and Fu Yuan—will be drawn into the Singularity. 348

After confronting Fu Yuan, Artoria acknowledges her tacit approval of the massacres and the influence of her divinity. Following Camelot's conflict, she ceases to be Chaldea's enemy and becomes an ally. 348 410 414

Chaldea and the Final Singularities

Artoria returns in a physical divine form, later choosing Excalibur over the Holy Lance. She trains Mash as Galahad's successor and provides Chaldea with intelligence about the final Holy Grail and the threat of Humanity's Evil. 410 415

In Uruk, she works alongside Fu Yuan and Chaldea against the Three Goddess Alliance. She uses Rhongomyniad to open a path into the Underworld and later continues supporting Fu Yuan in combat operations. 489 497 520
