Background
Yu Chen was a thirteenth-generation Feather Clan disciple who had lived for more than four centuries by the time Shen Yi met him on Bone Island. He was once close to Venerable Yu, whom he regarded as a brother. Although Venerable Yu was the more gifted of the two, he included Yu Chen in missions and eventually invited him to search for a legendary ancient palace 95 96.
The expedition ended in betrayal. Yu Chen had reached the Six-Winged rank while Venerable Yu had become the Feather Clan's youngest Eight-Winged Warrior, but Yu Chen lost his cultivation and body through Venerable Yu's actions. His hatred of betrayal remained intense even centuries later 96 97.
After Shen Yi defeated the bone dragon near the ancient palace, Yu Chen underwent a baptism in divine fire. His skull fused with a divine body, restoring his ability to fight and granting him six bone wings. Recognizing Shen Yi's strength and potential, he voluntarily became Shen Yi's subordinate 98.
Yu Chen later regained a true human body at a Spirit Spring on Immortal Island. The restoration awakened his Divine Bone and eight wings, elevating him to the Nascent Soul realm. He regarded this rebirth as a gift from Shen Yi and became still more devoted to him 133.
Appearance
Yu Chen initially exists as a skeletal being after losing his original body. Following his restoration, he resumes a human appearance while retaining the Feather Clan's winged characteristics.
- As a skeletal divine body, his skull contains green ghost fire and is joined to a white-boned body with six bone wings 97 98.
- He can alter the size of his divine body and conceal it beneath hooded clothing 98.
- After bathing in the Spirit Spring, he gains fair skin, black hair, blue eyes, a luminous Divine Bone, and eight white wings that emit sacred radiance 133.
Personality
Yu Chen is deeply affected by Venerable Yu's betrayal. The subject provokes immediate anger, and he initially struggles to separate his present identity from the life and body that were taken from him 97 124.
Despite initially yielding information readily when threatened by Shen Yi, he becomes fiercely loyal once Shen Yi restores his power and treats him with trust. He repeatedly volunteers for dangerous battles, follows Shen Yi's orders, and views Shen Yi's confidence in him as a source of purpose 95 101 124.
He is also more perceptive than Sikong Guxing in social matters. When Shen Yi begins preparing to establish a sect, Yu Chen quickly recognizes the purpose of Shen Yi's interactions with local powers and accepts responsibility for helping manage future affairs 138.
