Background / History

Xue Qinghe first notices the five-year-old Dongfang Xuan as he enters Heaven Dou City from the Star Luo Empire. Intrigued by the child’s unusual presence, he dismisses his guards and secretly follows him through the city, observing his business partnerships with small vendors and his efforts to employ struggling civilians. Xue Qinghe is impressed by the scale and speed of Dongfang Xuan’s work. 2

Still disguised beneath a bamboo hat, Xue Qinghe speaks with Dongfang Xuan at a noodle shop. He finds Dongfang’s exchange with a stray dog amusing, then resolves that it is not too late to bring the unusually capable child to his side. 2

Later that night, Xue Qinghe—then in the form of Qian Renxue—rescues Dongfang from three Soul Ancestors. Using Angel’s Holy Sword, she kills all three attackers before revealing her ability to transform into the male identity of Xue Qinghe. She then brings Dongfang into the imperial city for the night. 3

Xue Qinghe warns Dongfang to keep the night’s events secret, but chooses not to harm him despite his awareness of her disguise. When Dongfang promises to someday free her from the “sealed cage” created by her forced concealment, Xue Qinghe is moved by his sincerity and internally resolves to protect him if necessary. 4

Despite initially warning Dongfang to remain silent, Xue Qinghe is gentle and protective toward him. He offers Dongfang shelter, helps him recover after the attack, and allows himself to relax around the child in a way he has not experienced for a long time. 3 4

While disguised in a bamboo hat, Xue Qinghe shares a noodle shop with Dongfang. He is entertained when Dongfang reluctantly gives his chicken leg to a stray dog, and afterward considers bringing Dongfang to his side. 2

Rescue in Heaven Dou City

In Qian Renxue’s angelic form, Xue Qinghe intervenes when three Soul Ancestors attempt to kill Dongfang. She destroys the attackers with Angel’s Holy Sword, then transforms into Xue Qinghe and leads Dongfang to safety. 3
