Background / History

Jon Hart is a transmigrator from Earth who enters the British wizarding world as a new Hogwarts student. Before receiving his Hogwarts letter, his Muggle father Eric considers sending him to Eton College; Jon instead begins preparing for a magical education. He identifies serious study, discretion, and avoiding Harry Potter, his friends, Ginny Weasley, and Albus Dumbledore as his initial priorities. He also considers transferring abroad to avoid the dangers expected in Britain after Voldemort's return. 1 3

Jon believes his mature mindset and exceptional memory will let him surpass most students academically, though he recognizes that much magic is emotion-dependent and therefore difficult for him. He particularly excels in rigid, technical magic such as the Petrifying Spell, as well as Herbology, Potions, and mind- and memory-related magic. 18 290

During his early years at Hogwarts, Jon develops a practical, preparation-focused approach. He brews potions in secret, collects hair samples for Polyjuice transformations, studies Memory Charms, acquires silver bullets for potential werewolf threats, and experiments on rats. 64 71

After being selected as Hogwarts' second Champion in the Triwizard Tournament, Jon is drawn closer to Dumbledore's plans despite his reluctance. He later concludes that the only way to sever these ties is to let “Jon Hart” die, enabling him to operate under a new identity. 133 186

Dumbledore provides him with the identity of Kristoff Patrick, an Austrian-born Durmstrang student transferring through Beauxbatons to Hogwarts. An enchanted iron ring changes Jon's hair, complexion, and facial features into Kristoff's appearance. Jon travels alone to Durmstrang and Beauxbatons to establish the identity, then returns to Hogwarts as an exchange student. 198 201 203

As Kristoff, Jon is unexpectedly Sorted into Slytherin. He eventually reveals his real face to Astoria Greengrass, one of the few people aware of his dual identity. 218 228

Jon later travels through Albania, exposes and kills the werewolf Jean-Cruz, earns the trust of Xander Skanderbeg, and gains access to Kruja's wandless magical tradition. In exchange for eliminating vampires, he receives a branch of the sacred Kalaba Soul Tree. 361 362 365 366 379

Following Albus Dumbledore's death, Hogwarts itself chooses Jon as its next Headmaster. He publicly accepts the role at Dumbledore's funeral. 506

Appearance

While using his true identity, Jon is a teenage boy. His alternate appearance as Kristoff Patrick is created by Dumbledore's enchanted iron ring. 198

  • Kristoff Patrick form — soft curly hair, pale skin, and delicate facial features. 198
  • Iron Ring — removing it restores Jon's original appearance within seconds. 198
  • Jon is fifteen during the events in Transylvania. 376

Personality

Jon is analytical, cautious, and highly strategic. He habitually prepares for foreseeable threats through potions, disguises, contingency plans, intelligence gathering, and the use of magical and Muggle resources. He avoids public recognition when it could compromise his security, declining both the Order of Merlin and opportunities to publicize his survival. 64 115 416

He is skeptical of simplistic ideas about magical talent and heroic destiny. Jon considers raw spellcasting only one resource among many, arguing that a wizard's true strength is wisdom: the ability to use wands, potions, plants, magical creatures, and Muggle tools to solve problems. 289 290

Jon can be manipulative and ruthless when pursuing his objectives. He fabricates prophecies to influence others, shifts blame for the Transylvanian fire onto Remus Lupin, intimidates Xander through the killing and incineration of Jean-Cruz, and is willing to consider Horcrux creation. 226 364 378 420

Despite this pragmatism, he shows loyalty and protectiveness toward people he values, particularly Astoria, his parents, Hogwarts' house-elves, and allies facing Voldemort. 198 397 411 552
