It's Right to Be Strange

There would always be people who wanted to open a locked door. Perhaps there was nothing behind it, or perhaps it hid some unknown treasure. With that desire and impulse came the people who did the job.

Door Openers did exactly that: they opened the doors people wanted opened, no matter what kind of door it was.

In the Yao Yuan Civilization, a door meant a passage.

In earlier times, Door Openers who successfully opened a door and entered were allowed to take any one item inside first. This was also the privilege of a Door Opener.

But every profession changed with the times.

Gradually, Door Openers branched into two schools.

One was the classical school, which carried on the old tradition: open doors, seize objects, and receive hiring fees.

The other was the new school. Their styles and paths varied wildly, but one thing was the same: they opened doors for themselves. The rewards were much greater that way, though of course the risks were entirely their own to bear.

In truth, the classical school also faced all kinds of danger. For instance, most employers would not tell the whole truth, holding things back or even deliberately giving false information. Or perhaps the employer might worry about secrets leaking and arrange an "accidental" death for the Door Opener.

It was also because of generation after generation of such experiences that different voices arose within the profession.

If they had to face unpredictable risks either way, why not do it for themselves?

Yao Yuan Shou was one such member of the new school.

Door Openers had to believe in themselves unconditionally, to believe in their own craft. That was also what they relied on to ensure their own safety and evade risks.
