Xun'er grew up close to Xiao Yan and continued spending time with him during the two years his cultivation stagnated. He regarded her favorably, though he initially thought of her as a younger sister rather than recognizing her romantic feelings 6 60. When Yao Wan began helping Xiao Yan and accompanied him on his travels, Xun'er grew wary of her motives and closeness to him 24 35.

At Canaan Academy, Xun'er became more direct about wanting to stay beside Xiao Yan. She accepted his decision to leave in search of the Yan Luo Branch without demanding a promise, and later supplied medicinal ingredients for his plan to earn Fire Energy for Pan Gate 238 258. The Black Submerging Army subsequently came to take her back to the Gu Clan 294. Later, she left the Gu Realm without the elders' permission to find Xiao Yan in Central State 384.

At the Gu Clan's Coming-of-Age Ceremony, Xun'er awakened her God Grade Bloodline, challenged Yao Wan, and lost after their flames and techniques clashed 561 562. She then pressed the clan elders to return the Xiao Clan's Heavenly Tomb slot, securing Xiao Yan's entry 564 565. Their rivalry did not vanish, but Xun'er became more willing to work alongside Yao Wan, including when Xiao Yan's life was in danger 615 661.

Xun'er is described as a beautiful young woman whose presentation ranges from understated dresses to formal Gu Clan attire 24 979.

• Wears a pale-purple outfit when Yao Wan first notices her near Xiao Yan's residence; she is later seen in a light-cyan ruqun 24 564.
• For a formal Gu Clan appearance, wears a gilded, wide-sleeved robe bearing a cosmic star chart, with her hair in a Flying Immortal Bun, jade at her waist, and a visible clan mark 979.

Personality

Xun'er is perceptive and ordinarily reserved, but her feelings for Xiao Yan can make her openly jealous—especially around Yao Wan 24 60. She can also be considerate: rather than obstruct Xiao Yan's departure from the Inner Academy, she tells him to do what he needs to do 238.

Her rivalry with Yao Wan becomes more complicated after their battle. Xun'er admits that she still hates her, yet also envies her freedom 564. Over time, Xun'er challenges the Gu Clan elders more readily and takes responsibility for others, notably when coordinating the Endless Fire Territory's defense 614 1185.
