Background / History
As vice-captain of the Roger Pirates, Rayleigh helped train the crew’s young apprentices. He taught Austin, Shanks, and Buggy that Body Technique underpins every combat style, then assigned sword drills to Shanks and Buggy. He also explained advanced Haki techniques to Austin, including Conqueror’s Haki Infusion 3 14.
After Roger disbanded the crew, Rayleigh settled on Sabaody Archipelago. He helped keep order in Austin’s territory by dealing with pirates who caused trouble or tried to challenge Austin’s position. In return, he received money and access to the island’s establishments; he regularly charged drinks to Austin’s account 155. He later offered Austin the use of the Oro Jackson for a voyage 57.
Rayleigh remained involved with the next generation. He helped King Luffy’s group escape an incident involving the Celestial Dragons, then told them about Roger and the crew’s past 374. After Roger’s temporary return during the Summit War, Rayleigh chose to spend Roger’s remaining days with him 418. He subsequently arrived on Dullamos Island to help train Luffy, though he disagreed with Gick over how best to teach Haki 426 427.
