Background / History

Austin was an orphan raised on Dullamos Island by Old Gick, the Old Town Mayor. After learning that the Roger Pirates were nearby, he immediately chose to seek them out, believing their voyage offered the quickest route to the One Piece and the strongest possible teachers. He left Gick a farewell note and boarded the Oro Jackson as an intern after declaring his ambition to “turn this world upside down.” 1 2

On Roger's ship, Austin was trained and tested by the crew's veterans. Bitam became his sniper master, while Rayleigh instructed him in advanced combat principles and Conqueror's Haki Infusion. His natural Observation Haki, abnormal physical strength, and rapid ability to learn made him stronger than Shanks and Buggy despite being one of the crew's youngest members. 6 8 13 14

By age twelve, Austin held a bounty of 139,600,000 Belly. At thirteen, after defeating a Marine Rear Admiral and sinking a warship, his bounty had risen to 500,000,000 Belly. 9 15

Austin reached Laugh Tale with the Roger Pirates, but departed during the crew's disbandment. He chose Sabaody Archipelago as a base for two years of independent training, eventually eating the Warp Fruit and focusing on Devil Fruit development alongside Conqueror's Haki Infusion. 21 22 24

After Roger's execution, Austin made a deal with the Five Elders to recover Roger's body, cremated it, and scattered the ashes at sea.
