Early Saturday morning, Obito, Shisui, and the others began training according to Mu Yue's requirements.
Obito first followed Mu Yue in learning the basic moves of taijutsu. After practicing for an hour, Mu Yue had Obito rest, handed him a bottle of water, and wiped away his sweat.
Obito immediately sensed that something was wrong. Although Mu Yue was a good teacher, he normally wasn't this considerate. Handing him water was possible, but for wiping sweat, he would at most provide a towel.
"Obito, I think there's still a lot of potential in you that hasn't been brought out yet." Mu Yue smiled as he capped Obito's unfinished bottle of water and set it on the ground.
"No, no, no. I think you've already completely brought out all my potential, Teacher." Obito felt cold sweat forming on his forehead just after the hot sweat had been wiped away.
"You still underestimate yourself too much." Mu Yue shook his head.
"How about this? When you fight Guy, every time you get hit, you'll have to do one extra question during your next break.
"I'm sure that will completely bring out your potential. And even if it doesn't, doing more questions will improve your theory grades."
"Teacher, that wouldn't be good. If I get hit hundreds of times, I don't mind doing the questions, but I'm afraid you'll tire yourself out making them." Obito put on an expression like he was thinking of Mu Yue's well-being.
Obito had been pushed into a corner, and in his desperation, even his speaking skills had improved.
To Obito, making practice questions and doing test papers was more torturous than passionately brawling with Might Guy.
"I'm glad that you're concerned about your teacher's health, Obito." Mu Yue wore an appreciative expression.
Just as Obito thought he had escaped disaster, Mu Yue abruptly changed his tune.
"I knew you were such a good child, so I prepared a large number of questions for you in advance. You won't have to worry about running out of questions to do." Mu Yue smiled as he pulled out a stack of test papers, indicating that there was no shortage of questions.
"Is that enough? If not, I can have a Shadow Clone make some more." Mu Yue asked with a smile.
"That's enough, that's enough." Obito frantically shook his head and waved his hands. Just looking at the stack in Mu Yue's hand was already too much for him.
The sun was clearly blazing today, and Mu Yue's smile was warm as well, yet Obito felt a chill shoot from the soles of his feet straight to his head.
Since there was no getting anywhere with Mu Yue, Obito decided to take an indirect approach. Since he couldn't avoid doing questions, he would at least do fewer of them.
With that in mind, Obito hurriedly winked and gestured at Might Guy, signaling him to go easy on him later.
Might Guy saw Obito's signal, flashed his gleaming White Fang, and gave Obito a relaxed smile and a thumbs-up.
"As for Guy, every time you fail to land a hit, you'll have to do fifty questions. Every hit reduces that by one question, up to a maximum reduction of forty questions," Mu Yue continued.
Might Guy's expression suddenly changed. With a solemn face, he gave Obito another thumbs-up.
"Give it everything we've got? Don't do this!" Obito wailed, clutching his head with both hands. He could already see a flood of questions rushing toward him.
"For youth, we must give it our all and reduce the questions to the absolute minimum!" Might Guy felt himself burning up.
Obito didn't want to do questions, and neither did he.
In the following fight, Might Guy threw heavy punches and unleashed one hundred and twenty percent of his speed as he chased Obito down.
Obito, who also didn't want to do questions, had his potential erupt as well. After being hit more than a dozen times, his footwork became much nimbler.
Seeing how much the two of them had improved, Mu Yue nodded in satisfaction. Didn't they still have plenty of untapped potential?
Once both of them had run out of strength, the fight came to an end.
Obito had been hit over thirty times and needed to do over thirty questions, while Might Guy only had to do a little over ten.
Mu Yue felt the results were quite good. If they kept training like this, perhaps in less than two months, Hyuga Hamon would no longer be their match.
"What a pity Nohara Rin's talent isn't good enough. If I took Nohara Rin as a disciple too, it would be much easier to motivate Obito," Mu Yue thought.
For the sake of keeping a low profile, he was reluctant to have non-disciples train with them.
There was actually an even better candidate: Kakashi.
Nohara Rin could only motivate Obito, but if Kakashi were there too, both Obito and Might Guy would be motivated.
Kakashi had enough talent, but unfortunately, it was unlikely that he could become Mu Yue's student, because Kakashi had already been promoted to chunin two years ago.
Mu Yue stayed with them until noon, ate lunch with the three of them, then left behind two Shadow Clones while his main body headed to the Third Hokage's house to begin his tutoring work.
Perhaps because he was still at work, Mu Yue did not see Hiruzen Sarutobi. He only saw a middle-aged woman with a single ponytail—Hiruzen Sarutobi's wife, Sarutobi Biwako.
"Lady Biwako," Mu Yue greeted her.
"You must be the Teacher Hanyu that Hiruzen mentioned." Sarutobi Biwako recalled the appearance the Third Hokage had described and asked.
Mu Yue nodded.
"Asuma is waiting for you in the backyard." Sarutobi Biwako pointed Mu Yue in the right direction, then reminded him:
"Asuma is a bit rebellious. Please be patient with him, Teacher Hanyu. If he truly refuses to behave, just tell me."
"I will. However, I have some special methods for dealing with rebellious students." Mu Yue smiled in reply, then walked in the direction Sarutobi Biwako had indicated.
When he reached the backyard, Mu Yue indeed saw a child of around nine years old reclining against a tree with a blade of grass in his mouth, looking utterly bored.
Mu Yue first used Appraisal.
Name: Sarutobi Asuma Chakra: 1100 Potential: A+
Noticing Mu Yue's arrival, Asuma spat out the grass in his mouth. Without standing up, he directly asked:
"Are you that Hanyu Muyue who's supposed to teach me?"
Before Muyue could answer, Asuma quickly continued:
"Listen, if you can't make me surpass the Old Man—the Third Hokage—then just leave. There's no point."
Asuma felt he needed to put this tutor in his place first, then seize the initiative.
Just as Asuma wondered how Muyue would respond, Muyue shook his head and said:
"Of course I can't."
"Then leave." Asuma waved a hand and lay back down.
He didn't believe Muyue would actually leave just like that.
"Alright, I'll leave now and tell Lady Biwako that you don't need a tutor." Muyue turned and prepared to go.
Seeing that Muyue really looked ready to leave, Asuma's mind filled with question marks. What the hell was this? Why wasn't he following the usual script?
Shouldn't he be trying to persuade him nicely not to mess around or something? Why was he just leaving?
"Hey, hey, don't go yet." Asuma sprang to his feet and called Muyue back.
If the teacher got chased off before even starting the lesson, Old Mother would definitely give him a brutal scolding later.
