Background

Shisui was identified at age six as an exceptional Uchiha prodigy, enough to attract Shimura Danzo’s suspicion and prompt an order for Mu Yue to monitor and assess him. 6 Before entering the Ninja Academy, he received Uchiha clan instruction in Chakra basics and Fire Release, mastering the Great Fireball Technique unusually quickly. 278

Mu Yue became Shisui’s teacher and trained him intensively, including providing Secret Medicine to support recovery from demanding physical training. 56 Shisui’s Sharingan awakened during his sixth-birthday celebration with Mu Yue, Obito, and Rin; he accepted Mu Yue’s advice to keep the awakening hidden. 142

As a first-year Academy student, Shisui defeated Raido Namiashi, a graduated Genin, by evading his attacks, destroying his clones with Fire Release: Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson, and overpowering him in Taijutsu. 113 He later challenged and defeated Uchiha Chihiro, a Chunin, at a clan gathering, demonstrating that his strength and Fire Release far exceeded expectations for his age. 278

Shisui chose to remain in the Academy long enough to pursue knowledge as well as strength, despite debate within the clan over whether he should graduate early. 279 He eventually entered the Chunin Exams, dominated Uchiha Tekka and later rounds, then progressed into active service. 417 418

Battlefield reputation and Jonin rank

After recovering from injuries, Shisui joined Takagi Shinji’s squad as a Chunin. He defeated both Uesugi Tetsu and Takagi in practice, then proved himself in battle by refusing to retreat while his squad was surrounded by Mist shinobi. 440 448

His use of Genjutsu and Phantom Body Flicker helped defeat a stronger Mist squad. Enemy reports and Orochimaru’s promotion of his achievements spread his name across the eastern battlefield, leading to the title “Shisui of the Body Flicker.” 448 449 He later passed his Jonin assessment through a strategic fight against Fugaku. 455
