History

Senju Tobirama founded the Ninja Academy to train stronger ninja and give Konoha’s children a school to attend 263. Under its former six-year system, students could graduate early if they qualified 693 719. Wartime demands also accelerated training: during one semester, third-year students were permitted to graduate and their class undertook ninja internships instead of regular lessons 493.

Hanyu Mu Yue began teaching at the academy as the homeroom teacher of a first-year class 1. His results in classroom teaching and holiday Special Training led Hiruzen Sarutobi to create a Vice Principal position for him 335 340.

Curriculum and training

  • Regular classes — Students studied theory and taijutsu alongside ninjutsu. First-year ninjutsu lessons taught the Transformation, Clone, and Substitution Techniques; ordinary academy classes did not teach Chakra Nature Transformation 12 148 317.
  • Examinations — The academy held practical exams and graduation exams. Clone Technique was the announced subject of one graduation exam 132 260.
  • Holiday Special Training — Mu Yue’s programs provided additional instruction and practical tests. One summer course taught Chakra Nature Transformation and low-level elemental ninjutsu to academy students and genin 77 319 335.
  • Internships — Mu Yue proposed supervised commission work for outstanding students to gain experience before graduation. Academy trainees were restricted to D-rank missions 138 169.

Reform

Mu Yue and Minato Namikaze proposed replacing the academy’s six-year course with a four-year elementary division and a three-year middle school division. The proposal drew objections over its cost and the longer training period 693. It took effect at the start of a new school year, while retaining early graduation; a student seeking to become a ninja early had to pass both divisions’ graduation exams 719.

After the Ninja World Alliance formed, Mu Yue revised the divisions to five elementary years and four middle-school years. The changes also included new teaching materials and adjusted graduation assessments 759.
