Background / History
Obito began as an overlooked Ninja Academy student known as the Uchiha Clan’s underachiever. He had few peers within the clan, struggled with academics, and was underestimated even by fellow Uchiha, but he still dreamed of becoming Hokage and ending war. His life changed when Mu Yue began tutoring him during his fourth year, eventually taking him on as a disciple. 646
Mu Yue’s training rapidly improved Obito’s Taijutsu, Fire Release, confidence, and practical-exam performance. His first-place practical-exam result brought him to the attention of Uchiha Yashiro, who offered future mentorship and attempted to recruit him into the Konoha Police Force. Obito accepted the training support but consistently preferred missions outside the village over a Police Force career. 135 279
During a mission against the Cloud ninja Berkeley, Obito refused Kakashi’s proposal to retreat and awakened his Two-Tomoe Sharingan in the effort to protect his comrades. The new dōjutsu gave him the perception needed to coordinate with Might Guy and contribute to Berkeley’s defeat; soon afterward, Obito defeated Kakashi in a sparring match by anticipating his final move. 216 217 221
After graduating, Obito joined Minato Namikaze’s team alongside Kakashi and Rin. He rose quickly through Konoha’s ranks, becoming a Jōnin at age ten, earning second place in the Youth Martial Arts Tournament, and gaining a reputation as one of Konoha’s foremost young geniuses. 265 646
Obito’s battlefield achievements brought him recognition within the Uchiha Clan, though he disliked elders using them to glorify the clan at Kakashi’s expense. When Uchiha Seisei credited him alone for Fuguki Suikazan’s death, Obito corrected the record, emphasizing that Kakashi had fought beside him. 467
After awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan, Obito became increasingly formidable, yet Mu Yue’s warning about potential blindness kept him from treating Kamui as a tool for reckless victories. He later became a Jōnin captain to gain leadership experience for his eventual Hokage ambition. 649 699
In a parallel world, Obito discovered an impending Uchiha coup and chose to intervene rather than allow the clan’s destruction. He reported the coup to Hiruzen Sarutobi, convinced Uchiha Fugaku to cooperate, exposed Uchiha Seisei’s betrayal, and persuaded the clan to abandon rebellion in favor of a peaceful future in Konoha. 825 826 830
Appearance
Obito is a black-haired Uchiha often recognized by his goggles and broad, unguarded grin. A younger photograph shows him smiling in goggles, an image that contrasts with his later reputation as a powerful Jōnin. 256
- Black hair. 256
- Wears goggles. 256
- Possesses crimson Sharingan eyes when activated. 216
- His Mangekyō Sharingan has a shuriken-like pattern. 646
Personality
Obito is compassionate, demonstrative, and unusually open-hearted for an Uchiha. He helps elderly villagers, is well-liked by Konoha’s older residents, and is described by Mu Yue and his grandmother as kind and hardworking. This warmth makes him an anomaly within a clan widely associated with pride and isolation. 56 227 252
He is also intensely competitive, especially toward Kakashi. Obito boasts after victories, craves recognition from Rin, and can become overconfident after gaining power, but he is willing to ask for help when he recognizes a weakness. His rivalry with Kakashi repeatedly motivates him to train harder. 59 222 225
Though he enjoys praise, Obito does not claim credit that belongs to others. He publicly corrected an Uchiha elder who exaggerated his role in Fuguki Suikazan’s death, refusing to erase Kakashi’s contribution. 467
As a captain, Obito favors empathy and understanding over intimidation. His subordinates view him as a mentor and older-brother figure, while he treats leadership as preparation for becoming Hokage. 699 712
