Background / History

Loki grew up beside Thor as Odin's adopted son. After repeatedly failing to gain Odin's recognition, he learned that he was Laufey's son and interpreted Odin's favor toward Thor as proof that he was an unwanted “abandoned monster.” This discovery intensified his inferiority, self-loathing, and determination to prove himself worthy of kingship. 589

Odin had originally intended Loki to become king of Jotunheim while Thor ruled Asgard, using their brotherhood to secure peace between the realms. Loki was never told this plan, instead believing he had been denied an equal chance at Asgard's throne. 644 804

Attempted Rule and the Mjolnir Humiliation

After taking Asgard's throne, Loki infiltrates S.H.I.E.L.D.'s facility invisibly and encounters He-El, a human acknowledged by Mjolnir. Loki fails to lift the hammer, attacks He-El, and is ultimately forced to flee through the Rainbow Bridge after He-El traps him with an electromagnetic field. 589 593
