Background / History

Zhang Chulan chose to resurrect his grandfather, Zhang Huaiyi, using a Resurrection Coin after reflecting on their family memories and the dangers that would follow. He intended for them to seek protection at Mount Longhu if necessary. 36

Soon afterward, Feng Baobao confronted Zhang Chulan while searching for Zhang Xilin’s grave. Zhang Chulan immediately denied his identity after seeing her produce an iron shovel, then sought help through the Dimensional Chat Group. Feng Baobao restrained him, but Liu Yanyan’s walking corpses distracted her long enough for Zhang Chulan and the resurrected Zhang Huaiyi to flee under Golden Light. 45 46

While evading Quanxing, Zhang Chulan traveled with Zhang Huaiyi and Wu Tong toward Mount Longhu. Short on money, he defeated Liu Yanyan, knocked her unconscious, and took her cash—justifying it as settling the trouble she had caused him in the original plot. The group reached Mount Longhu after three days of pursuit. 52

At Mount Longhu, Zhang Chulan introduced the Dimensional Chat Group to his grandfather and explained its similarity to ordinary chat applications, apart from its ability to connect worlds. He later confirmed to the Old Celestial Master and Lu Jin that he had personally resurrected Zhang Huaiyi. 52 57

Zhang Chulan is cautious, opportunistic, and highly adaptable. When threatened, he defaults to denial, misdirection, or retreat; even his apparently suspicious behavior can have mundane causes, such as his genuine fear of heights. 45 54

He is also shamelessly pragmatic when pursuing a goal. Faced with the Grand Rite of Luo Tian’s unusually strong competitors, he planned to recruit Dimensional Chat Group members—and, if necessary, their companions—as outside help.
