Background / History

Fang Ling was formerly a beggar with a broken left leg and a wooden prosthetic limb. During his Martial Soul awakening, he gained a Scythe Martial Soul and discovered a Stats Panel that could convert earned Points into growth. Though he began with no innate Soul Power, he used a Point to reach Level 1 and committed himself to becoming a Soul Master 2.

At Notting Academy, Fang Ling became a work-study student and adopted a routine of classes, slaughterhouse work, cultivation, and combat training. He avoided unnecessary conflict while weak, but viewed this restraint as temporary; his long-term goal was to accumulate strength through battle and reach the Great Soul Arena 10 18.

He killed a Fallen Spirit Master while still a child, earning the recognition of Spirit Hall’s Angel Legion Demon Hunt Camp. Rather than attach himself to Spirit Hall, Fang Ling chose to pursue his own path and seek systematic close-combat instruction 18.

After becoming a Soul Master, Fang Ling left Notting Academy for War King Intermediate Spirit Master Academy in Icefront City. His performance in the enrollment examination and a spar with Director Ou earned him Lin Tianyang’s mentorship; Principal Lin Yuehua later accepted him as a disciple 28 29 45.

In combat, he is ruthless, analytical, and willing to exploit terrain, timing, fear, and opponents’ greed. He is willing to endure severe injuries and near-death situations if they produce growth, but he also reflects on his failures and adjusts his methods 28 41 48.

Despite his brutality toward enemies, Fang Ling remains respectful toward teachers and grateful to those who aid him. He credits War King Academy’s foundational instruction with changing his life and retains sincere affection for Lin Tianyang and Lin Yuehua 41 367.
