Dugu Yan lives with her grandfather, Dugu Bo, at Dugu Manor in Heaven Dou City. Prince Xue Xing gifted him the residence, but his fearsome reputation leaves the surrounding homes empty and nearby streets quiet. Dugu Yan is accustomed to this isolation and remains openly affectionate toward him 79.

Dugu Bo initially considers Yu Tianheng a suitable protector for her because of his strength and Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan background. With his own poisoning worsening, he fears that his enemies could threaten her after his death. Nevertheless, he does not intend to force her to accept someone she dislikes 79.

Her meeting with Fang Ling begins at Heaven Dou Royal Academy. She admires his determination and grows less tolerant of Yu Tianheng’s attempts to impress her. Fang Ling deliberately cultivates her curiosity through fleeting glances, eventually prompting her to question him 70 72 76 84.
