Origin and Purpose
Blade Beasts originated from the Spiritual Practitioner Civilization's Soul Creation experimental project. The Blade Beast Priest identifies this project as the foundation of the species, while also recognizing that the Blade Beasts ultimately rebelled against their creators. 192
Their civilization harvests psionic energy through planetary slaughter: a Blade Beast swarm can kill most of a primitive planet's population while preserving enough survivors to reproduce, then collect vast numbers of crystal cores containing psionic energy. 336
Blade Beasts replenish the psionic energy in their own crystal cores by absorbing luminous stones hidden underground. Their crystal cores also automatically capture the souls of dead Blade Beasts, apparently as a form of material recycling. 156
Biology and Appearance
Blade Beast forms vary heavily by rank and function, but their defining trait is a maw lined with concentric rings of sharp teeth. Most combat types possess armored bodies, multiple limbs, and bladed appendages. 247
- Mouthparts — Circular or oval maws filled with layered teeth; some variants have membranes, petal-like coverings, or human-like faces on the outer surface. 15
- Blade limbs — Blades commonly grow from limbs, joints, digits, and backs; a basic Blade Beast can curl into a wheel-like form covered in blades. 247
- Exoskeleton — Their hardened armor protects the body, though weak points may exist near the mouthparts or around the crystal core. 59
- Crystal core — The core stores psionic energy and restrains the Blade Beast's soul after death. 159
- Souls — Blade Beast souls can survive as remnant souls in shattered or drained crystal cores and attempt to invade other beings. 247
Classification and Hierarchy
| Rank / Type | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Basic Blade Beast | Common combat form with little significant self-awareness; typically acts on instinct or simple directives. 363 |
| General-Class | Higher-tier combat units that mainly obey orders or act according to destructive instinct. 363 |
| Sub-King Class | Evolutionary peak of General-Class Blade Beasts; can possess destructive power comparable to King-Class units but lack their population-level authority. 63 |
| King-Class | Swarm-command units with unique abilities and authority over Blade Beast groups; their crystal-core energy corresponds to an S-Class Psionicist. 63 156 |
| Super King-Class | Extremely powerful units used in major offensives; capable of unleashing powerful shockwaves alongside King-Class formations. 334 |
| Pillar-Class / Beast God | Colossal planetary war machines, commonly called the Twelve Beast Gods. Their scale, defense, recovery, psionic reserves, and ability to integrate entire tides make them difficult to measure by ordinary power systems. 194 634 |
| Galinno | Rare, anthropomorphic “individuals” that serve as the civilization's command brains and battlefield advisers. They can coordinate command networks and conceal themselves among Pillar-Class units. 333 354 |
| Evangelist | Special Blade Beast type associated with mimicry, psionicist modification, and promotion ceremonies. A rare Evangelist may advance from High-Tier to Sub-King and eventually King-Class. 192 197 |
| Young King Insect | Stealth-oriented special type whose fully evolved form becomes a King-Class Blade Beast. 63 |
Abilities and Traits
Psionic Energy and Mental Shock
Blade Beasts use psionic energy stored in their crystal cores. Their Mental Shock is produced through resonance between the soul and the core's psionic energy. 159
- Can emit visible mental shockwaves capable of incapacitating ordinary humans. 59
- Higher-ranked units can use distinctive psionic attacks, including beams, shockwaves, corrosive or explosive projectiles, and electromagnetic bursts. 274 334
- A Blade Beast's active soul regions are a critical weakness; attacks that pierce or disrupt them can disable the creature. 11
Evolution and Adaptation
Blade Beasts rapidly produce specialized forms in response to human defenses.
- New General-Class and Sub-King-Class variants can release electromagnetic bursts intended to disable human weapon systems. 73
- Some units evolve wings and infiltrate fortresses from above rather than relying only on underground assaults. 90
- Pseudo Spirit Slaves can devour one another to temporarily amplify an individual unit before a suicidal charge. 334
- Certain special types are designed for burrowing, aerial bombing, gravity resistance, or anti-fortress warfare. 61 73 334
Swarm Command Network
Blade Beast battlefield intelligence is shared through a network connecting units from basic combat beasts to King-Class leaders. Galinno use this network to view the battlefield as a unified field of information. 333
- Every Blade Beast can contribute sensory information to the shared command field. 333
- King-Class units can issue localized autonomous commands, including directing attacks on civilian evacuation routes. 333
- Galinno provide command doctrine, battlefield coordination, and strategic guidance to the swarm. 333
- Lower-ranked Blade Beasts generally lack meaningful independent thought and rely on instinct or transmitted orders. 363
Crystal Core Manipulation and Soul Persistence
A Blade Beast's crystal core and soul are separable. When the body dies, the crystal core restrains the soul rather than immediately releasing it. 159 142
- Remnant souls can emerge from damaged crystal cores and attack nearby living beings. 247
- Removing or refining the soul can render a crystal core safer for use in weapons or cultivation. 85
- Human souls can be recognized by a Blade Beast crystal core as the beast's own soul under specific circumstances, enabling the creation of Half-Human Mechs. 142
- Crystal cores implanted into humans can create Beast God Faction Psionicists with enhanced bodies and psionic abilities. 73 197
Reproduction and Mutation
Blade Beasts conduct biological research, cloning experiments, and mutation-related work in underground laboratories. A Galinno describes recovered Blade Beast bodies as capable of producing a “new consciousness,” indicating that mutation and reproduction are closely linked. 363
Warfare
Blade Beasts fight as a civilization rather than as isolated monsters. Their offensives combine massed swarms, specialized high-tier organisms, infiltrators, and strategic infrastructure. 311 334
- Blade Beast Tides — Large-scale offensives that overwhelm defenses through numbers, coordinated attacks, and sustained depletion of enemy psionic energy. 274
- Pseudo Stargates — Imperfect teleportation gates used to move General-Class and Sub-King-Class forces rapidly into battle. 256
- Stargates — Strategic interstellar gateways intended to bring reinforcements and enable full-scale assaults. 200 305
- Pseudo Spirit Slaves — Humanoid Blade Beast units used for infiltration, attrition, and suicide attacks against high-tier opponents. 333 363
- Beast God Faction — Human collaborators and modified Psionicists controlled by Blade Beasts, including individuals implanted with crystal cores and Brain-Eating Worms. 181 193
Notable Incidents
- A King-Class Blade Beast and numerous Sub-King-Class units were slaughtered after Wang Jixuan entered a Blade Beast lair while using the forbidden Demon Star Annihilation Art. 9
- Blade Beasts assaulted Mine Six with a roaming group of at least thirty, including burrowing types. 58
- Three young General-Class Blade Beasts directed a swarm that infiltrated Fortress No. 76 and attempted to sever the connecting route between its floors. 90
- The largest documented Blade Beast Tide targeted humanity's war zones and ultimately revealed its strategic goal: eliminating the Beast God's nemesis, Wang Jixuan. 311
- Blade Beasts tore up their agreement with the Bright Wings Council and began a full-scale siege of the Psionic Capital. 331
- The Blade Beast Civilization mobilized Pillar-Class swarms in space and on Earth, forcing humanity to commit space fortresses, Super Large Mecha, Psionicists, and Spiritual Practitioners. 336 337
Trivia
- The name “Blade Beast” comes from the common basic combat form, whose back and limbs become a wheel-like mass of blades when it curls up. 247
- Pillar-Class designations such as “Sixth Pillar” and “Ninth Pillar” are human identifiers, not rankings of strength. 258
- Galinno consider themselves the true “individuals” of Blade Beast Civilization, distinguishing themselves from the largely instinct-driven lower ranks. 354 363
