Background / History
Psionicists are produced through psionic infusion. Candidates are selected using measures of mental activity, dark resistance, and individual will. Zheng Shiduo describes a process in which about 20% survive; of those survivors, about 15% gain psionic abilities. Many successful candidates are E-Class or have no combat ability 630. Frontline war-zone Psionicists often began as critically wounded soldiers sent for infusion 630 488.
The 13th Biological Research Institute establishes Psionicist’s Homes in fortresses, while the Psionic Capital grew around its headquarters 350 370. The system is divided between Psionic Capital control and military command. Following a failed attempt by powerful Psionicists to establish a psionic government, regulations placed Psionicist organizations under researchers, war-zone commanders, or fortress governors; newly created Psionicists were fitted with Self-Destruct Chips 630.
Spiritual Practitioners call infused Psionicists Spirit Slaves. Infusion Walls imprint their creator’s mark on those they produce, and imprinted Psionicists continuously contribute a small portion of their power to that Spiritual Practitioner’s spire 21 493. Some Psionicists and factions resist the Psionic Capital’s leadership: the Naturalist Faction opposes the Dominion Faction, while military Psionicists fight alongside ordinary soldiers 234 252.
Ranks and Types
- Ranks — The initial scale ran from E-Class through A-Class. S-Class was added as A-Class Psionicists developed substantially greater combat power; S-Class Psionicists hold titles. SS-Class marks the highest rank described 260.
- Rank gaps — Wang Jixuan identifies a particularly large gap between C-Class and B-Class. For Psionicists of the same attribute, replicated Infusion Walls leave B-Class and A-Class separated by an “insurmountable gap” 3 488.
- Ability categories — Telekinesis, body enhancement, mutant, and balanced. Balanced Psionicists possess abilities across several areas without specializing in one 589.
- Awakening — An Awakened Psionicist can use far more of their existing psionic power. Wang Jixuan distinguishes them from Psionicists who have energy but must discover how to use it for themselves 193 643.
Abilities & Skills
Psionic Energy
- Psionicists possess internal psionic energy, but equal amounts do not guarantee equal combat power: experience and methods of use matter 193.
- Heavy use can exhaust that energy, leaving a Psionicist vulnerable if unable to retreat 61.
- Wang Jixuan observes that crude body enhancement can damage its user; he also identifies a destructive imbalance in Dragonfly Aunt, an A-Class Psionicist 614 650.
Telekinesis and Mental Effects
- Telekinetic Psionicists can move objects. Lower-level users commonly carry sharp metal objects; Ji Xiao demonstrates shaping metal powder into spears, shields, and arrows 374.
- Mental shocks can be used in combat or as interference. The X Armor protects Wang Jixuan from several Psionicists’ Mental Shocks 355.
- Wu Man uses his abilities to lure Blade Beasts out of tunnels and into human firepower 258.
Body Enhancement and Mutation
- Body-enhancement Psionicists can gain exceptional strength, speed, durability, or regeneration. A B-Class intruder is recorded as over two meters tall and highly agile 263.
- Psionicists modified by Blade Beasts gain greater destructive power and rapid recovery, but remain distinct from ordinary Psionicists 275.
Story Role / Major Arcs
- Fortress conflicts — Psionicists appear on both sides of disputes between the military, fortress authorities, and the 13th Institute. At Fortress No. 82, a Psionicist is used to control the garrison commander 223.
- Training and reform — Wang Jixuan teaches Psionicists to use their energy more effectively and trains a group in the Seven Star Sword Array 193 170. He later removes Self-Destruct Chips from frontline Psionicists while imprinting new Psionic Energy Circuits on them 488.
- Blade Beast war — The Psionic Capital deploys Psionicists in large numbers against Blade Beast tides. Their defense line initially collapses as fighters retreat or are exhausted, but stabilizes when they commit to the fight and rotate positions effectively 78.
- Conflict within Psionic Capital — The Dominion and Naturalist factions compete for control. The Psionic Capital also faces defections after screening for Blade Beast Brain-Eating Worm infiltration 234 523.
