Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Stage Three Sacrifice Path (present estimate) 33 Li Wen assesses that he has not yet begun the Holy Temple pilgrimage and should be no higher than level 30. Though he habitually wears knight armor, he is a Sacrificial Fire Priest rather than a Judgment or Guardian knight.
Stage Six Crimson Shepherd (Li Wen's prior timeline) 33 In Li Wen's memories, he becomes a Stage Six Crimson Shepherd, commands part of the Red Knight Legion, and later kills several Demon Sages and the Bloodlust High Priest during Sin City's counter-offensive.

Background

Moria is the Holy Temple's Firstborn and one of its most accomplished Templar Knights. He completed the Temple's special training, including the Spellbreaker trial, and is regarded as a Paladin of Radiance. The Secret Church assigned him to recover the Great Blood, an artifact dangerous enough to cause disaster if left with heretics or ordinary people. 33 116 121

He was also tasked with locating Light Chasers and returning them to the Holy Temple, despite admitting that he does not know the nature of the Path of Light Chasing itself. His first encounter with Li Wen occurs while he is investigating the Black Forest ruins and seeking the Ghost Fairy. 35 89 94

In Li Wen's original timeline, Moria eventually becomes a relentless Church pursuer who drives her from the mainland. He is also remembered as a major figure in later conflicts, but his actions after meeting Li Wen diverge from that expected future. 33 83

Appearance

Moria is a young priest with light-colored, unusually clear eyes. He commonly wears simple priest robes, though he once used borrowed knight armor as a remnant of his Temple training. When traveling discreetly, he dresses as an unremarkable adventurer or freeman. 33 89 189

  • Calm, composed expression even during combat or negotiations. 151 188
  • Uses a longsword despite his identity as a Radiance priest. 40 246
  • His priestly presence and pure Radiance are immediately recognizable to other clergy. 286

Personality

Moria is sincerely devout, compassionate, and unwilling to ignore suffering. He repeatedly helps strangers without accepting payment, protects civilians and even frightened cult believers, and risks himself to heal others. 83 246 276

His honesty can leave him feeling powerless: he refuses to promise a grieving child that her missing father will return because he cannot know that to be true. He also carries responsibility for the consequences of his decisions, particularly Nasha's fate and the loss of the Great Blood. 164 272

Although generally trusting and gentle, Moria is resolute when confronting danger. He will negotiate respectfully with ancient beings, confront cultists and Transcendents directly, and delay his return to Kanan rather than risk allowing preventable deaths. 114 151 231

Abilities & Skills

Radiance Divine Arts

Moria channels Radiance through prayer for healing, purification, protection, and offense.

  • Uses Radiance to illuminate the Black Forest dungeon. 36
  • Casts a wide-area restoration that removes negative effects and restores the party's health after the Glimmering Spell. 37
  • Uses Shared Fate to reflect Zotes' Blood Curse back onto him after taking the attack himself. 40
  • Incinerates the Stage Three Flesh-and-Blood Dragon with a single Divine Art. 41
  • Heals a dying girl and temporarily suppresses an Umbral curse afflicting a child. 164 277

Rite of Adherence

The Rite of Adherence is Moria's most consequential restorative Divine Art.

  • Produces a radiant white candle after an extended prayer. 83
  • Dispels Wilson's high-level chaos effect across an entire hall. 83
  • Heals those affected and grants them renewed strength. 83
  • Its use while cursed leaves Moria unconscious after the spell is completed. 83

Templar Swordsmanship

Moria is an elite close-range fighter who combines precise swordplay with exceptional physical discipline.

  • Uses scarlet flame-wreathed sword strikes against Zotes and the Blood Lust Cult's creations. 40 41
  • Fights the Wolf Leader to a standstill without relying on Divine Arts. 142 143
  • Defeats Joseph with a broken blade by exploiting Joseph's fear of his reputation and power. 188
  • Works in close coordination with Li Wen, defending openings while she delivers decisive attacks. 245 279

Undead Butcher

A specialized Templar Knight trial and combat discipline for fighting undead entities.

  • Enhances Moria's focus and gives his flame-enchanted blade a soul-severing edge. 246
  • Annihilates more than a dozen Sunken Ghouls with a single sword strike. 246
  • Allows him to protect Eternal Life Blessing Cult survivors while eliminating the Ghoul Commander. 246

Spellbreaker Training

Moria completed the Holy Temple's Spellbreaker training, granting him broad magical knowledge and access to lower-stage spells. 94 121

  • Can cast up to six spells below his own stage through Templar Knight authority. 121
  • Uses Magic Power Tracking to search for enemy spellcasters, though it cannot identify mist not created by mages. 121
  • Uses Blazing Enchantment to destroy Void Creatures by turning their fog-like medium into fuel for enchanted flames. 125
  • Identifies residual Forbidden Magic in the Sunken Horn ruins. 244

Bathed in Glory

Bathed in Glory is Moria's extraordinary Trait.

  • While fighting alone without using Magic Power-consuming spells, skills, or abilities, his physical strength rises in stages. 143
  • The Trait allows him to overcome opponents through prolonged pure martial combat. 143
  • He has reportedly never lost a purely martial contest against Holy Temple instructors while using it. 143

Curse and Breath of Dawn

A shadow-inflicted curse corrupts Moria's soul and causes severe backlash whenever he attempts to use Radiance Divine Arts. 83 125

  • The curse forces him to rely on swordsmanship and ordinary magic during much of the Leicester conflict. 125 130
  • Breath of Dawn, a Holy Temple secret medicine, temporarily suppresses nearly any curse. 189
  • The medicine enabled his Radiance-assisted battle against Joseph, but causes three days of weakness afterward. 189
  • When the curse is suppressed again in the Sunken City, his Radiance-infused strikes hinder Joseph's regeneration. 265

Equipment

  • Longsword / Knight Sword — Moria's primary weapon in both martial combat and spellcasting. 40 125
  • Bishop Caro's former Knight Sword — A worn sword given to Moria after the false Great Blood was discovered. 116
  • Magic Pocket — Used to carry the supposed Great Blood and other items. 116

  • Holy emblem — Given to Sivell as a sign of protection and a request for contact. 223 231

Relationships

  • Li Wen / Mephisto — Initially allies in the Black Forest dungeon; they become long-term companions who increasingly rely on each other's judgment and fight in close coordination. Moria serves as the required observer for Li Wen's Path of Light Chasing advancement. 35 131 167 245
  • Nasha — A Wild Mage Moria intended to escort to a legitimate Magic Society. She secretly replaced the Great Blood with a fake and was later killed by Selwyn after attempting to kidnap Halik. 35 116 164
  • Halik — A Wild Mage placed under Moria's protection alongside Nasha. Moria later learns that Halik is with The Truth Society. 35 164
  • Bishop Caro — A respected bishop who receives Moria's report and initially agrees to secure the Great Blood; the relic turns out to be a fake in his hands. 115 116
  • Sivell — The “Eye of the Tide” who trusts Moria enough to reveal information about Black Reef Bay, the Sunken Horn, Kourt's bloodline curse, and the Great Blood's route to Camelot. 231 273
  • Princess Victoria — A cautious ally during the Leicester incident and later the Port Belen investigation. Moria respects her station but remains wary of her intentions. 130 131 225
  • Bishop Valeus — The Camelot bishop who receives Moria's report on the Great Blood and recognizes The Truth Society's plan to distribute it among the capital's population. 286

Story Role / Major Arcs

Black Forest Ruins and the Great Blood

Moria offers Li Wen protection while exploring the Black Forest dungeon, brings Nasha and Halik with him for supervision, and pays Zotes a Sun Crown to guide the group. When Zotes reveals himself as a Blood Lust Cultist, Moria shields Li Wen from the Blood Curse, destroys the Flesh-and-Blood Dragon, and confronts the defeated cultist. 35 40 41

He initially believes he has secured the Great Blood from the ruins. When he hands the ruby to Bishop Caro, it crumbles into dust, revealing that Nasha had somehow exchanged it for a fake. 116

Wilson Town and the Scarlet Curse

After arriving in Wilson Town with the Wild Mages, Moria enters Lord Wilson's mansion despite its unsettling atmosphere. Old Sem traps him in darkness and inflicts the curse that later restricts his Divine Arts. 73 80 83

Despite the curse's backlash, Moria uses the Rite of Adherence to stop Wilson's chaos effect, heal the survivors, and prevent further mutual slaughter. He collapses afterward, forcing Li Wen to keep him alive. 83

Leicester and the Sage's Ovum Sheath

Moria delays his return to Kanan to investigate illegal Transcendents, Void rifts, the Wolf Pack Club, and the Sage's Ovum Sheath. He repeatedly asks Li Wen for her judgment and prioritizes protecting her from dangers connected to the artifact. 114 125 131

During the Wolf Leader conflict, he fights the Pack Leader despite being unable to freely use Divine Arts. His Bathed in Glory Trait lets him match the enemy through escalating physical strength. 138 143

Path of Light Chasing

Li Wen requires Moria's assistance to advance on the Path of Light Chasing. As the Firstborn of the Temple and the person closest to Radiance, he serves as the ritual's sole qualified observer, representing the Ancient Sun God's witness in the rebirth-themed ritual. 164 167

Port Belen and the Sunken Horn

Moria travels to Port Belen to recover the Great Blood and investigates the Eternal Life Blessing Cult's imprisonment of Sivell. After learning the cult plans to sail for Black Reef Bay, he resolves to stop them. 223 231

After the vortex pulls the Adventurer into the Sunken Horn, he and Li Wen survive the separation, identify Forbidden Magic, fight Sunken Ghouls, defend cult survivors, and escape the city's awakened gargoyles. 243 244 246 248

Journey to Camelot

Sivell's divination reveals that the Great Blood has reached Arthur's Royal Capital and is “held not by one, but by ten thousand.” Moria travels with Li Wen to Camelot to prevent its use, report Nasha's betrayal, and seek Church support. 273 274 286

Trivia

  • Moria's original Chinese name is 莫里亚.
