Background / History

Bai Lu was the mage apprentice of Miranda Atlin. By the time she joined a pickup group in Leicester, she had reached level ten but could not advance to Stage Two because Miranda, who had promised to wait for her there, had disappeared. She joined the group after a classmate who invited her was unable to attend. 98

While pursuing a suspected Transcendent near Bernard Cross's home, Bai Lu was separated from the party. The criminal's escape was a feint: he ambushed Bai Lu after massacring the other players. Her Spell Shield prevented the initial attack from killing her outright, but she was left at 14% health. 98 99

Li Wen, acting as Mephisto, observed the encounter without intervening. After Bai Lu survived, Li Wen identified her, explained Miranda's absence, and offered either an introduction to Archmage Marymana or work on Li Wen's behalf. Bai Lu cautiously accepted the opportunity. 99 100

Li Wen then used Bai Lu as her intermediary in the Wolf Pack Club. Guided remotely through the club's underground casino, Bai Lu used an optimized Telekinetic Touch to rig games, accumulated more than fifty Gold Pounds, confronted the Pack Leader, and delivered information concerning the Rebirth Pebble. The operation made her conspicuous within Leicester's Transcendent community. 101 104

During the conflict around Black Raven Port, Bai Lu supported Li Wen with auxiliary spells against the Agent. 139 Later, she accompanied high-school players during the werewolf disturbances in Old Town, protecting them with a Magic Echo barrier and fighting alongside them. 129 133

Bai Lu was subsequently targeted by White Star Yi Shi and his allies. Though she fought effectively, dwindling Magic Power left her outmatched; Li Wen and Edward arrived after she was cornered in a warehouse. 134 135

While hunting werewolf remnants in the sewers for experience points, Bai Lu followed Li Wen to the Artificer's Hand Society headquarters. There, Li Wen revealed that Bai Lu—not Li Wen—was Miranda's real apprentice. Marymana confirmed the similarity of Bai Lu's Aether reaction to Miranda's and offered to teach her at the Circle of White Birds Society until Miranda returned. Bai Lu accepted immediately. 161 163

Personality

Bai Lu is socially anxious, cautious around strangers, and prone to overthinking possible traps. She initially suspected Li Wen's offer to introduce her to Marymana was a form of “cyber fraud,” yet still tried to bargain for better terms. 100

She is highly motivated by advancement and experience points, joining sewer investigations primarily to avoid wasting experience while at her level cap. 161 In dangerous situations, however, she can act decisively: she pursued a suspicious fleeing figure without waiting for her party, stood her ground before the Pack Leader, and protected weaker players during the Old Town fighting. 98 102 133
