There were many floating islands in Merlot Heavenly City, large and small, scattered almost everywhere. Yet among them, one stood out as especially noteworthy.
It was not very large. Suspended in midair, it resembled an inverted pyramid. Built from a special Dark Alloy, it was almost entirely devoid of vegetation. Just one look at it gave people an oppressive, uncomfortable feeling.
This place had been specially prepared for angels who had made mistakes. It was called the Place of Confinement.
Angels could make mistakes too, especially the Little Angels. Most of them were children born to retired older-generation angels who had descended to the mortal world and had children with ordinary people, only to later be selected to enter Heavenly City.
A brief explanation was necessary here.
Kesha had never restricted angels from seeking their own love. Though she was revered as a god, she was remarkably humane. She believed that True Love Will Be Eternal. Whenever an angel found her true love and swore an oath of guardianship, Kesha would bless her and permit her to retire.
When the older-generation angels left, Heavenly City naturally needed to recruit replacements for their positions. Thus, the descendants born to angels among civilizations that believed in justice became the best candidates for recruitment.
When Little Angels suddenly arrived in an advanced civilization from lower civilizations, the change in environment and lifestyle made it difficult for them to adapt in a short time. Their inability to adjust often caused their original values to influence them while carrying out angelic justice, leading them to do inappropriate things.
And so, the Place of Confinement came into being.
At the center of the floating island where the Place of Confinement stood was an enormous building. Once inside, it seemed as though sunlight had been driven away.
